buy sj now or wait???

i finally got my money together to replace my sj, i found a new 07 for a really good price, or i can reserve the 08 and wait, i only have until tomorrow to decide (the seller has someone else trying to buy the ski), the new 08 sj could be way better, or have a lot of problems like most new products do. or i can buy the 07 and have a ski that i know that i like and is easy to modify, but the downside of that is that it could be outdated in a few months compared to the 08. i think the 08 is the way to go, but thats a lot of money for a ski i know nothing about

dont get an 07 or an 08..get an older one thats modded already

the reason i am not getting an older one is because i bought a 1995 fx1 a month ago and the motor seized up within 5 hours of riding so ill spend the extra $ to not make that mistake again

you can seize a new motor the same as an old motor.did you mix your gas right??..was it getting water??, how do you know it wasnt your fault?..if you buy new you will have to drop alot of $ to make it rideable...i dont consider stock sj to be rideable..i hate them in fact id rather ride a stock sxr than a stock sj

if i had the money i would wait for the 08, if it is very good then you will have the newest platform to build. If it is not that good it will still drive down the prices of the 96 to 07 skis just because people need the newest and coolest ski.
you only have to wait till September.

buying new helps the market down the road, if everyone keeps buying used sjs, the values will be damn near each other before long, id wait and see the 08, you could always pick up a left over cheap too

after 5 minutes I'd say there was probably something wrong with it to start....

after 5 hours I'd say you proabably didnt mix your fuel properly or something else silly like that..

buy used.

The way I hear it the 08 SJ will have different carbs that you don't want, different prop, and it will handle slightly better. The 07 will have the good carbs, tubbies will fix the handling part, and we all know the stock prop has to go. Time will tell but I don't see the 08 effecting the current SJ much, except maybe the 96-07 stock carb will be more valuable. If you must buy new I say buy the 07.

I can see your point on looking high and low for a clean ski. I looked for 2 years before I bought mine.

i mixed the fuel right but thanks

oh and i about buying an older ski thats good to go, ive owned 4 stand ups and only bought one of those skis new, the new one i could have kept forever and spent my money on new mods, the 3 used i was to busy spending money trying to get them running 100%

sounds like you knew the answer to your question before you even asked it...

 This subject seems to get some people in a snit. It may have to do with hours of frustration, cubic dollars, and tow ropes- there are legitimate arguments for buying new and used. You guys with your abrupt monosyllabic answers aren't helping.

So far, bit is the only one to offer up any usefull info in regards to the '08.

As for the '07, know this. Yamaha has made some changes to it, but they are very subtle. Suffice to say that mine RIPS better than you'd think- ran some buoys yesterday, and the boat makes healthy power. I'll hand a lot of people their ass on it- now what?!?:beerchug:
