Super Jet Buying first ski second hand

I've been interested in stand up jet skis for a while I ride sitdowns and mx bikes but I'm thinking I want something a bit different for summer(AUS) so I'm looking at stand ups on gumtree(graigs list) and there are very few in my area mainly a couple Kawasaki 1998 650 and there all going for upwards of $3,5k(AUD). I found a Yamaha superjet 2005 the owner says he bought the hull an fully rebuilt the engine with all new parts and only 2 tanks of fuel through it. Can someone take a look at this and see if it's worth $4,6k he's asking for an if it will be to difficult for a learner because of the mods. e

Motor is only 2 tanks of fuel old, very fast & reliable. Lots of spares incl. 62T & 61X cylinder, new Worx Dominator ride plate, Alloy pole, AJSP billet head plus more.

From what I see and the description I would say it certainly has some decent parts on it plus the biggest benefit is the reinforced hull. That alone although not expensive to do yourself is a rather major and time consuming job. I paid 2k Canadian for my 1996 totally flat stock SuperJet which looks much like this one. I invested A LOT to get it where it is today. If the engine is as nice as he claims and the compression checks out, there is good spark and no issues with the hull such as heavy tray section as this would suggest another major job removing the soaked foam, I would think this is a worth while ski to seriously consider. In the Cronulla Beach Rip N Ride 7 video they mentioned a fully stock but new SuperJet sells there for 12k at Northies if I remember the name correctly.

But I do believe that this is a fair price for what you are getting if all is genuinely well done and mechanically sound. This machine will be by far a better machine to have in the long run when comparing to the Kawi 650 SX. It will be a ski not only great to learn on but is built up enough that it will keep you quite happy for quite a long time. The tray on this ski is a little wider than the 650 SX and it will handle much much better. The 650 is a good ski for very basic beginners but they are very under powered for the engine size they are. With a good host of mods done to the 650 they can be a fun ski as well but not really worth it in the end as you will most likely want to move on to a SuperJet or something aftermarket once you get a handle on riding it, more so after you try a SuperJet done up the way this one is. If the stand-ups are a rare beast in your area then you may want to seriously consider this one as they are a very sought after ski, it probably won't last long on the market. Another great thing about the Yamaha, you can transfer almost all if not all of the parts on it over to an aftermarket hull when the time comes that you want to move on in that direction. If you find the stand up side is not for you, the SuperJet will still give you a great re-sell value due to the demand for them vs. the Kawi. Do keep in mind though this is only my personal opinion on the details shown and mentioned, you would know much more about what kind of demand there is for these skis in your area. I'm on the Gold Coast I'm looking at a 1997 superjet with a bunch of mods that looks in good condition for $3500(AUD/CAD)

I like the look of that black '96 one located in Logan. It has sensible mod's and appears to be owned by someone in 'ski community rather than just some random.
