So if you were selling a part for $100 and someone offered you $150 you wouldn't take it?

I would sell it to the first person in line, not the one with the highest offer. I post a price with my stuff that I am pretty clear about. I do not fish for high offers.
Not sure what others do.

triple secret probation
So Seller lists a B-pipe for sale...

Buyer A sends PM "does it come with all bolts, etc..." (cause seller was a F'n dumbarse and didn't describe his item thoroughly)

Buyer B sends PM "I'll take it"

Seller logs in and gets both PM's at the same time...what should Seller do?

On the stuff I've sold here, I go by timestamps on PMs or responses to the thread...and work my way down the list. If Buyer A tries to negotiate down, I tell him I have another buyer (Buyer B) lined up and ready to pay.

I think it sucks that a seller just hops on the first person that throws money at him. Give someone a chance to ask a question about your item - but at the same time, at least state that you have others interested and give a time limit to make a decision.

and while we're suggesting....what's with the ridiculous lowball offers? I know parts aren't gold plated - but offering $15 for something that should sell for $50??? Puh-lease!

Maybe we should have a requirement list before an ad is placed. Like Mark44 said, price, location, and pics would be my top three choices. If you don't have those, you can't post the ad. In fairness to both parties (buyer and seller), it's doesn't give everyone an equal shot at getting the part without all the information. The responsibility should not be put on the buyer to find out all the details while giving someone else, who doesn't care about those details, the opportunity to purchase the part. 'Tire kickers' happen a lot of times because the seller doesn't provide complete information. This is why it may be a good idea for those three items be posted at the time listing the ad.

P.S. Maybe add paypal address as #4 to the requirement. This way, there would be no speculation who paid first. If someone else paid but they came in later, just refund the money.

IMO, this could cause problems.

Hmmm (scratches head)....

I dont want paid for the same item more than once. I do feel you are correct on the listing a price and the full description, and when possible pics..
I dont know how much you have sold here, but you can get alot of questions and PM's over an item. It is only fair to both seller and buyer that the first to decide gets the item for an agreed price. Why should anyone pass up a sale because a potential buyer hasnt decided?????? The buyer should respond to all PM's in order and the 1st to decide gets it.

I hate links to eBay auctions. Either list it here or not. If it is listed here, give us a price that will make you end the eBay auction but don't list it here to make us bid against every idiot in cyberspace.

Absolutely. Give your buddies first shot, avoid the ebay fees, and avoid all the freakin' scammers as well. If it doesn't sell here, then take it to fleabay.

A few ideas I think might help...

1. Seller must be a regular vistor to site (aka 50 or 100 posts or more)
2. Must have pictures
3. An asking price must be listed (if you don't know what it's worth, start high, people will tell you if your asking too much or if it doesn't sell after awhile your obviously asking too much)
4. The thread should be the dominate path of communication only offers should be pm'd.

All I got for now.

its hard to get this big and every deal still be between freinds, But thats how it really SHOULD be.

a template or form would be nice, but lots of forums have classifieds set up like that and they sort of suck. so maybe everyone can USE a similar system, but not have the actual x-h20 for sale section be bound by that template?
