ca boating law?

is it illegal to do rolls on a ca lake? i was at a local lake practicing rolls and dialing in my carbs today and a ranger told me if she ever sees my doing one of those "upside down thingies" again she will give me a reckless boating ticket and ban me from the lake. wtf?

Rangers are like police. Some are cool...some are not. I know some states/lakes have laws about your ski even leaving the water. A small hop can be in violation and earn a reckless boating ticket. Bah, can't remember what else I was gonna write.
