SX/SXi/SXi Pro calling all C.A.T.S users!!!!

ok so i have a 93 750 sx as a freestyle project and im currently doing this C.A.T.S setup. i bought a x2 nozzle off of ebay and its functional and clean, all of the writeups i have read and all of the pictures i have seen from you guys, your x2 reduction nozzle looks like its metal and mine is plastic with fins on the inside, do i have an older or newer version? did the guy switch the metal one out before shipping it to me? and what the hell does C.A.T.S stand for custom something trim system? and anyone who lectures me about a 750 goin freestyle and tells me to buy a superjet well all i can say is that not everybodys mommy and daddy held their hand all the way down to the dealership lol anyway, somebody hook me up with some info

Maybe if you didn't spend all your money on hair gel, gym memberships and tanning you'd be able to afford a superjet :joke: That's what everyone in NJ spends their money on no?

I have an x2 nozzle too. does any one know what length the cable should be from the lever to the trim nozzle ? also to add to the CATS I haven't been able to notice exactly what people put into the firewall to keep where the cable routes dry. I do not want to use the stock bildge exit either

Alot of guys will use silcone or a type of epoxy inside a peice of 3/4" pvc pipe, I have seen some cheap azz ways of doing it, but to do it right, you would want to use a compression fitting that you could thread onto or into the pvc end, then there is a cap that will typically have some sort of rubber seal in the end of it to snug to the cable. much like the elec wires that come out of your kawi eboxs. I have also seen people use bellows tube like the shift cable on a mercruiser outdrive. Pics below, You can use the existing bilge tube, however it is nice to have the factory suction pickup in the event something fails on a elec pump. I used my bilge tube for my dual cooling on mine. Most trim system come with a tube for install, hoever you can just buy a 1/2" alum water line for household plumbing at lowes or HDepot, it works the same . just make sure your cable goes thru it. and when you drill your bulkhead. the cable shoud exit as straight as possible to the trim pivot ball. You dont want to kink cables and break them. some times its impossible to get the cable postioned dead strait, either the motor is in the way or the ebox. so you have to get it close as you can.

sxi rider- I recommend getting a ss/xi nozzle over the 650. This nozzle is meant to be on a 750 so the nozzle size is better. Ive heard that a copper tube is good to use for through the bulkhead.

ive attached the pic of the nozzle. "RKO Motorsports" sells em for like 30 bucks plus shipping.

I have the x2 nozzle already though :( lol.I heard they can be better because of the reduction nozzle size I guess though.its bigger in diameter I believe.

its bigger by like 3mm i think? its a 83-84 right?
let me know how it works out, because i have one too. if it works well ill switch it out.

yeah something like that and the veins in the reduction nozzle are said to help out ...alright i'm in the same spot is you though Ill I have as the nozzle. I shaved it so the steering nozzle can throw up way more too. now for a cable drilling it and mounting it lol

getting ready to buy my cable for the trim. Ive heard people use the "terry cable" anyone know what model number or length for an sxi??

Ok so i have everything hooked up, i used a piece of 3/8"pex tubing from home depot... I believe thats how u spell it,its just like pvc, then i epoxy'd it in and used black fuel/water resistant rtv over the epoxy, once it dried ofcourse. Then i used 2 3/8" black rubber vacuum caps from pep boys with a hole (smaller than the cable diameter) punched in the center to run the cable through to keep the inside of the tube dry and to keep water out of my hull, i then bought cable from a local bike shop called planet bike, it was a 3500mm ( 11.5 ft)long mountain bike stainless cable made by jagwire, now they have 2 versions of that, mountain and street, the mountain is what you want because the end fitting is like a normal bicycle cable whereas the street cable has a funny looking end on it that wont fit a bicycle v- brake lever. Anyway that was like 10 bucks and i got some cable housing off of their spool it was like $1.50 a foot so i got like 12 feet. I then realized that i had no way to connect the straight end of the cable to the trim nozzle so what i did while i was there was i picked up these little things called knarps, they're little drums with set screws so that you can slide them on your cable and use the set screw to bite down on the cable. So i went home and drilled a hole through the ball joint fitting on the trim nozzle and routed the cable through and installed the knarp on the end. It works perfect, only problem is that the knarps arnt stainless and neither is the inside of the cable housing but when the time comes its cheap enough to replace, and btw i think the 650 nozzle is 4mm larger, and a larger nozzle will help with the low end punch.... Why else would you have a trim nozzle anyway ;) and btw the hardest part of this mod was drilling from one side to the other, i hope this helps, havnt tried it out yet tho, waiting for the water to get warmer. Oh forgot to add my bracket, i used sxi4evr as a how to to make the cable mount by the pump, and bought 2 v- brake levers so that i could use the adjuster on the pump side aswell.

I dont have any but i will get some for u guys, and btw, your going to have to cut the bond line like i did otherwise the nozzle points right at the rear lip. If it helps i also used a piece of aluminum rod to drill through and tap to extend the steering cable, i just put it in a bench vice , drilled, taped, and cut about a 1" piece and then got a stainess screw and cut the head off and used that little threaded rod esentially to couple the brass connector to the spacer i made, then the other side of the spacer threaded right onto the steering cable and locked on with the little placement nut, i know it sounds like alot but ill get you the pics

550/440

Maybe I'll get it all the way around NEXT time....

I know this is after the fact, but thought it might be helpful to others looking to do a CATS.

Terry Cable will send you the right cable if you ask them for a SuperJet trim cable.
For the steering extender, You can also use the cable end fitting and cut it down, then use some threaded rod and placement nuts, no tapping needed.
Everyone seems to make their own bracket to hold the cable, I found a 650sx throttle cable bracket and cut it / bent it to work, the cable opening was perfect for the Terry cable.
The 650 X2 nozzle is approximately 84mm, but has thicker sides where the bolts mount for the pivot, taking away some of the benefit. Still a nice "add" for better low end. You can leave the vein extensions in place, they supposedly help with straightening out the flow. I've ran them with and without the vein extensions, and can't feel a noticeable difference.
