I might be starting a new project. Might by a Rickter fr 2 hull and was wondering what engine you guys recommend running. I ride all surf and like going big.
This is my first Rickter build so I'm looking for any help. Been saving up for this for a couple yrs now.

Thanks for the replies,
I will have to look into the 865 for sure. I'm surprised I thought everyone would have recommended bigger like a 1000?
Why do you guys rec. the 865?

looks nice but Im thinking the 865 motor is the way to go with this ski. maybe 1000 is too heavy? not sure but everyone so far is telling me 865.
anyone know the weight difference between 865 and 1000?

I had the same debate 3 months back, as the XS1000 is only like $1500 more then the 865. If my ski was never going to see surf I would have bought the 1000. I've ridden the 865, and dont think I would even need that much in the surf. Hell my xs771 is probably all I would ever really need in the waves....lol. I got the 865 for the Rickter because I do ride alot of both flat and surf, and figured it was a good middle ground inbetween the 771 & 1000. Plus its nice to deal with readily available $600 cranks you can buy from any yamaha dealer, instead of $1500 ones you many/many not have to wait for from 3rd party.

Not a weight issue at all

What it really boils down to is, around 850cc - 865cc is (in my opinion) absolute max displacement for a B-pipe, any larger a displacement and the pipe just dosn't have the volume necessary to make the most of a larger motor , not saying it dosnt work , but it limits the motor

Perfect all around surf motor XS865 or Dasa 850 Stock stroke motor.... I ran the XS865 in my Carbon Rickter for a month while I waited for my XS1000 motor.... I ran the XS1000/Bpipe/TL/FullSpec 49's/Carbon Rickter for 6-7 months last year, nice setup, but its to much to enjoy riding in the surf everyday. Hard to say it, but you can have to much power in the surf! Plus DB is right, the B pipe really holds the xs1000 back... I'm running a freak now with my xs1000/Powerfactor, power is night & day from the b pipe.. I'm building a surf freak right now, its getting a 850 Dasa/Thrust built motor

My vote XS865 or Dasa/Thrust 850

I was having as similar decision recently. I think the main thing is 1000 is too aggressive power delivery for surf if it's set up right. I suppose you could soften the power but then it's just wasting a big engine ! I have rode 2 dasa 850 ss and quite a few x 865 set ups . It's only my opinion but I much prefered the xscream engine especially when going up a couple of bores 846 or close to that . I'm defiantly no expert rider but that's what I liked and where I spent my $$$$

I agree with the majority something in the 800cc range Dasa/XMetal or call jetworks they all make good stuff, and correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard the 1000cc+ are alot more mantanince, but if that's not an issue get a stroker they have more torque

Ask RRP what motor they recommend with their hull. I imagine they have an idea what package works well, otherwise they wouldn't be in business.

if you order a Ski off Rick they come with a Dasa 850 or 950 option

or you can go the porn option

that's hot right their!!! but if it was me, I would go with the WCf/dasa 846 set up...but that's just my opinion! :)
you can loose either way but I pretty sure Dasa would be less $$
