cant figure this out!!!

give me fuel give me fire
:thinking:my ski is a 785 flat top motor with bpipe, mod chamber, blackjack 44s, with 130 main and pilot jets. running 113octane vp fuel with new digital total loss. I am having huge problems getting it to run correctly and wanted to have it ready for the cleavland rock n ride.

It starts fine and idles normal. when I give it some throttle(past half) it almost sounds like its bouncing off the rev limiter. I have checked the pickup clearance, swapped coils, swaped spark plug wires, checked all grounds, changed spark plugs, and changed my timing. wires look good....

I was told to set timing at:
static 28 degrees
retard begin 5000
rev limit 8000
max speed retard 15degrees

I have tried other timing settings with little change. unless i set the rev limit at 10000 or higher. I know I CANT run the ski like that but it does seem to run fine like that(out of water).

It could possibly be the brain I suppose but I want to rule everything else out before I have to cut all the wires I sodered together, heat shrinked and taped.

what fuel pump you running I had almost the same problem and it was the fuel pump check the check valves make sure it's working right

Are the plug's fouling ?
adjust your high speed screw in a bit and see if that helps.
Your motor will never turn 8000+ rpm so thats not a rev problem.
Whats you needle and seat and pop off?

thats what I thought too. thats what art from jetworks put in them after I told him everything about the ski. I dont think its to rich because the plugs arnt wet.

had a thought at work today though... I never did a leak down test of the motor after I finished. im going to try that and see if I have a leak someplace. make sense?

Even if the jetting is a little bit off BlackJack 44's will run fine like that with TL. Since you're running VP 113, you'll be very close because of the oxygen in the fuel. 113 is REALLY powerful fuel. This seems like a dumb question, but I couldn't tell from your original post if you've actually run the ski in the water yet. If you haven't, do and see how it runs.

I still say fuel pump like I said felt rich like hitting rev limiter was getting way to much fuel because of faulty fuel pump check valves would sit and idle for ever but if you held it steady it would bog and die in the water free rev on trailer like it hit the limiter way early, but thats just my thought and i'm new to the ski world good luck

Could your highs speed screws be too far out ? I have seen this condition before and it went away as I closed the high screw. We ended up out only at 5/8 on the highs. If you have been running it I would change the spark plugs just for the heck of it even if they look good.

I have put it in the water and it bogs down at 1/4 throttle. all my srews are all the way in. I have adjusted them all with little to no change. like I said before this is where art set them. the carbs were completly rebuilt. I need to charge my battery and try a few other things. like a leak down test. im thinking that I could have a leak and the engine is sucking air.

does that make sense? or would it make the engine deisel like when you have a head gasket leak?

My ski did the same thing last weekend. Sounded and ran like it was bouncing off the rev limiter. swapped in a stocker cdi and worked flawlessly.
My msd enhancer went bad.

I know it is not total loss.

im 98% sure I have a bad channel. Art called me today and I think i may have this figured out. Just need to charge my battery:banghead: damn odyssey. I knew I shoulda just got a jetworks battery. even if it wasnt the best battery to buy, Id buy it from him cuz hes the sh*t!:Banane09:
