Carb advice

I got a basically a limited set-up(dry pipe) on a 61x and planning on getting some port work done for more bottom end, Is it worth my time to change out my single 46bj for a dual 38 or 44 setup?

I would stay with your sgl carb on 61x cases and spend money on other upgrades.
Like I said its just basically a limited set up, not too many things on the boat that haven't been upgraded, (total loss is just about all it's missing which I don't want anyway)after I have it ported and still keeping it a true 61x

Hey Landon - I agree, keep the 46BJ for best bottom-end. And I'm curious, who is doing your porting and what are they promising? I hope it is a "freestyle" port job, since you are looking for more bottom end. I've seen way too many over-ported yamahas around here that have NO bottom-end after a "killer port job". Altitude makes a marginally over-ported cylinder job worthless up here where the air is thin.... Boy, but do they scream on top-end, like a light switch when they finally wake up and come on!!!

Freestyle port job is on the docket, dont need more rpms just some more ponys down low, got some good templates for it and probly have chase help me with it, really thinkn twin 38's with that speedworx pipe I got and my timing advance, worth a try I guess and keep my old setup just in case

Sounds good. My advice above was assuming you are keeping the 61x cases. If you want to do dual-carbs right, get a set of 62t cases and have them ported too. I'm sure Chase has some lying around and probably manifold and carbs too. Lot more choices and availability for 62t-based carb setups.
just a thought...

I was just down that road this past summer with my Speedwerx pipe (awesome pipe!) From what I have seen, between dual 38's or a single 44 there was no power difference but a lot less tuning required. I bounced back and forth about 6 times, on the last time I was just wanting to ride so I left the duals on but will be changing back to the single this Spring. The twins were a little better on fuel though surprisingly compared to the one 44, but hard to keep dialed in all the time and very sensitive to water ingestion. The 44 I noticed didn't seem to care. The 38's did a lot of slogging to clear out when some water found its way in. The 44...it was like "got water? bring it on" lol.

I run a 61x, with Jetmaniac Ported Cylinder (718). Using a 44 Blackjack and it runs great. Handles water ingestion fairly well, and has great power all the way through. If I did it over again I would go with a 46 blackjack, but the 44 is serving me well.
