carb gumming after winter layup?

do you guys have any problems with carbs gumming up after the winter layup?

i remember getting back skis from dealers that winterized them and the carbs needed to be cleaned in the spring and now im getting back into skis, that was one thing i didnt look forward to back then

is there a carb specific process to prevent just that?

Stabil is supposed to help with this. I've never had any problems with fuel gumming up the carbs unless it's from a ski that I've bought that has sat for YEARS.

I forgot!
i had it last year my one carb had the diaphram dry out then stick and it wouldn't flutter. i took it apart and sprayed a bit of wd-40 at it and then it was fine. this year i did run stabil through it on my last ride hoping that the fuel won't dry out and gum up. i also have turned the motor over a few times to get the cases to pulse the carbs abit, keep things moving.

i never had any problems after using stabil, just make sure to fil the tank up with fresh gas, add stabil( make sure you mix the stabil good!!!) then go run the ski for 10 minutes, last ride sorta thing...
that way you are absolutely sure stabil has run all the way thru your fuel system.
this new ethanol gas doesnt help, cuz the ethanol attracts water, and it loosens all teh old crud.
it probably worsens the gumming problem, as the ethanol seems to eat all the old crud in the tank and fuel system, and flush it thru the system. real important to run fuel filters,
1 or 2 even. although after a season on the ethanol everything seems to clean up real nice inside...
worst case pull the carbs and clean them, but i never had to do this yet.

First, don't let a dealer winterize or touch your ski. It is so easy to do yourself. Stabil will prevent the carbs from gumming up but just dont add it to the tank. Run the ski for a few minutes to make sure the treated gas makes it thru the carbs and all the fuel lines.

yah, i dont plan on giving any more skis to the stealers :) ive been reading on winterizing, seems easy enough with all the new sprays, additives available today that werent mainstream 13 years ago, i.e., i dont remember stabil back then but anyway, and spraying everything with wd-40 or silicone spray was definatly not the thing back then either.. and not to mention all skiers were pretty much on their own, small crews, no forums were around back then

thanks guys
