Agreed, first hand on my prototype builds same everything but a 20 pound lighter layup. It slides out more doesnt track as nice. The posts previous to this post are right on. My favorite part is how to load up and springboard. That's the trick to hieght
A trinity matrix 80lb hull is an example of a heavy carbon layup. I didn't build it they did.

Still light.
Nearly double the weight of most carbon layups makes an 80lb carbon layup very heavy as far as carbon layups go. And yes you are correct, that is lighter than a glass layup?
Right. An 80lb carbon matrix is a surf capable hull for sure.
ive seen it do fine on flatwater to. its not a purpose built flip hull like many others.

has anyone had a glass Hurricane in the surf? I think it will do surprisingly well. Get a bilge in it and keep the scuppers closed. I love the way mine rides and can't wait to get it in some surf. I'm a total newb at surf, but still can''t wait to try it.

Keep us posted on how it goes. Did you go glass, or carbon? Can't remember. I bet it's going to be a friggin sweet ride in the surf. Spins, turns, flips, planes out and books it pretty good. It might not be the best, but I bet it will do surprisingly well.
