Carbs sticking open

OK...I thought I had an air leak, but my carbs are sticking open. Stock SXR Mikunis. The throttle plates slide back and forth a little and are snagging on the side of the barrel.

Any ideas how to stop this...freaks me out when it revs out in the air.

after a lot of braaaps the the brass throttle plate wears out causing more air to leak past when its closed(from the worn sides), and it also moves back and forth like you are saying. After a while it rubs the carb bore and makes it a pain in the ass to pull out of the shaft.

A visual check should show its condition.

You can buy rebuild kits for the shafts / throttle plate. I use the cheap ones from SBT for $15 but I also changed it out twice this season.

Check your return spring . my spring was worn 1/2 way thru from the inside of the spring hole . sand/grit had worn it away, this was unable to be seen while the spring was on the carbs and only when I removed it to look for the problem did i see the serious wear . Changed it out and still running with old carbs . its worth a check

Replace the shafts and plates, spring is not a bad idea also.
