Career out of High school

Just in time for hurricane season. We all live for our storm season in the northwest. Except this weird heat wave power outage crap we are dealing with. Good luck, soak in all the knowledge and figure out which part of the field you like and get that apprenticeship!

Yes sir! Thank you for the advice!

Absolutely insane. All the lineman I know make about 60-80hr. Lots of overtime. Google says reported salaries of San Diego are a peak of 105. Idk about giving 1000 hours ot a yr of my life but hey, prostitution should be legal

Haven't ever heard of any hourly paying trade job making 200,300,or 400k a yr. Thats bookoo bucks. Not saying it's not possible. Just haven't ever seen anyone make money like that.

Good job dude. Keep at it. You've obviously got a good head on your shoulders seeking advice in the first place. Sky is the limit

Overtime is cool but personal time is worth so much more! I was making 25k+ in overtime for 3-5 years, on top of my salary pay. I finally got away from it as my salary increased and, I wanted more free time. I'm now 37 and work about four 8 hour days a week(take lots of Fridays off!) and have broken six figures.

Who wants to work when they can be out playing? All these people are saving up to retire old. It's 2021 and most of the boomers are still working until 70. We'll be working our whole life, just pace yourself and have fun. You can't do back flips on a 30k ski, when you're 65.

65 is not that old. I'm 8 years from that and I'd guarantee I'm in better shape than 90% of the 37 year old guys out there. Now I just need the $30K ski....

I think most of the boomers want to work. My old man could have retired 10 years ago but hes worried he will get board if he stops working. I have Been to a couple freerides with guys who are 60+ riding stand ups in the surf.

I could have retired 3 years ago. I fully paid my house off and have had a ira/401k since 19. A net worth of a million isn't enough to retire. Not how I want. I work because I've taken months off and been bored to absolute death. Having a 9-5 allows me/others to be paid to learn. Have awesome health benefits. And the ability to benefit from someone else's wallet. Chasing a dollar was fun for a while. But that kind of life literally sucks your soul dry as you get older. If you have one anyways.

A plan in life is key. It's simple to acheive a life of no work and mediocre living by your 40s. What is a challenge is sticking to a plan and coming out miles ahead when it's all said and done. Disappearing to that island in the sea, or your own private paradise with its own runway. To each their own. Bottom line, work hard and you will get what's coming to you.

I work 4 10s and have fridays off. Two weeks a month I’m on call. Plenty of time to Jetski and making enough money to have a ski! Thank you guys for all the advice it’s helped me out a ton!

Im surprised to hear of a big company still doing apprenticeships with so many college grads around. In aviation we called them "cheap labor programs". It may be a good gig for you depending on your potiential and personality.
