Picture 025.jpgPicture 026.jpgPicture 024.jpgBlew up my 750 small pin yesterday, looks like a piece of the lower connecting rod bearing entered the combustion chamber, and beat everything up. now i have many decisions to make, luckily i have a little money put away for a car, about 1500, just got a nice raise too. I just rode a RN yesterday, and a wave blaster, didnt do very well on either one, im on my first season on my 750,off of a 440. so do i spend 400 on a crank, another 250 on topend and even more on misc, stuff, or do i buy a sbt engine, big pin or an, 800, i have heard those sbts arent great. i just dont think i want to spend a bunch of money and still have a small pin motor. 701 motor would be nice, but probly cost serious cash right? benifit to buildin a yama motor, is that i could swap over to a super jet real easy. i do like my heavy ass ski, but know the potential is somewhat limited hmmmmm

small pins can make descent power....get use head off here for 50 bucks tops, sbt crank for 275, piston kits from ebay for 200, 40 on gaskets, then if the cylinder is hurt send it to someone to bore and port...maybe 350?

of you can always buy a used short block, there are a ton of options....you just need to think about what you want in the future

i really want to ride this ski for at least 1 more season, but if i could score a big pin, with an 800 cylinder that would be nice, but wish in one hand and #### in the other right?

I couldn't stand riding a SJ either because they handle so much different than my old 750. I built one though because of all the rave and eventually loved the SJ so much and never liked riding the 750 since. To prove it, when I broke something on my SJ, I would just wrench on it until it was fixed rather than ride my 750 which had the same power and ran fine.

In regards to your real issue though, it'd cost serious money (possibly more than you have tucked away) to go to a 701 engine in your kawi so don't consider that an option. It'd be cheaper to buy a whole SJ and ride that instead. The big pin motors were better for racing and the small pin motors were better for freestyle because of the porting differences. Before you go rebuilding that thing, you need to inspect and measure your cylinder and see if anything is damaged, worn, and/or if it needs to be bored out.

I ended up getting a big pin motor, and a new hot rod crank , top end kit , reeds, im keepin my kawi and getting a super jet. maybe this winter. big pin= better low end porting is what i thought but maybe im wrong.
