Carve Composites RAZR

Hey guys, I'm not building a ski quite yet but I will be in 6-8 weeks. It'll be my first stand up, though I've rode a few different ones. Riding my blaster is no fun unless the waves are sizable in lake Erie so it's time to get a real ski. I guess I'm taking a risk buying a hull I've never ridden but I've only heard good things and the introductory pricing they have going on in the US was too good to pass up (they still had one hull available at intro price yesterday). Andy at Carve has been very easy to communicate with and provided lots of information and pictures on the building of the hulls.

I don't have a super jet to source parts from so I need to start looking for them. Does anyone have any advice for setting up a nice lake Erie freeride ski? I don't need anything crazy but I'd like it to be a ski I can learn to back flip and barrel roll, etc. I was thinking a 61x/62t 701 with a 185 comp head and porting, factory pipe (should I get a mod or limited chamber?), 10/16 hooker on a solas 144 mag pump (not sure what driveshaft to use with that pump, I've heard it doesn't fit quite right in AM hulls with a superjet shaft). I appreciate any words of wisdom.

That all sounds good for Erie!

I have not been able to get a hooker 9/15 or 10/16 to hit anywhere near my 13/16-3mm Solas on a stock pump/unported high comp motor.

I have not had the time or resources to try all of the combos but I can tell you a 13/16-3mm Solas with a stock cone and bored exit nozzle match lake Erie like a fish matches water!!!

Hey Mat, thanks for the input. Which series of solas impeller are you using? YQ-CD, YB-CD, YB-SC? Is there much of difference between them?

I can't remember any letters on this prop..... a Solas 13/17-3mm repitched to 13/16. I was first told about this set up by Paul Lehr and I have never really cared enough to chase another pump tune!

Dave at Impros in Cali created my masterpiece prop.

Everyone tries to steer you toward a hooker 9/15 but so many pump tune variables...I have never been able to get a hooker 9/15 to hit like mine!!

The Carve is proving to be a great hull over here with Dan foy riding the first one hard for over a year now and it's still going strong and he rides hard!
It's just a normal pre 08 superjet shaft you need to run as im aware.

Picked up this 2002 sj I'll be using for parts. Going to ride it for a few weeks then start taking it apart. I'll probably be selling the hull and pole when I'm all done.

Andy did all the turf on this and it looks awesome. I’ve finally got footholds fitted. Also got the pump shoe in. Pump and midshaft alignment was easy peasy. The bulkhead was perfectly positioned. No shims were needed anywhere in the back! Should have the ride plate fitted on Monday. So far, so good!

I got a little discount since it was introductory pricing. Was almost 4000 to get it home. The 2002 SJ will probably be for sale soon.
