OK, so i filled the ski up with water to just above the bearing housing and not a single drop below the ski. I even fired it up for a few seconds and she was water tight. Double checked the pump and it looks pretty good. Here are some pics.
at 12 o'clock the pump top is the hardest to seal. also if the surface was not prepped it has a tendency to not bond. it may look sealed and not be.
i had same problem with 89 650sx.....after complete rebuild pump cavatating horribly on bottom end......replaced mid-bearing carrier and now works perfect....LOTS OF "THREEBOND 1211" sealant I THINK ITS CALLED... and now works like new....i also tried to fill engine compartment no loss of water...NOT A DROP even running.....but the new housing fixed everything
scrApe it clean, and or wire wheel. then wipe clean with alcohol then re-seal. p[ut extra on the top of the pump.. scuff and clean the pump surface also.
the RIGHT STUFF SEALANT IN AN aerosol can is the bomb, you it is usable in an hr after install..lol
it will also re seal to itself if you have to pull the pump. just cut w/ a blade to remove, then apply a thin bead to re-install..
