Ceramic Coating Pipe?

I called a place in town and asked if they could powder coat my b-pipe chamber, they suggested I ceramic coat. Now I'm wondering could I run my pipe hotter for more power since ceramic coating will not allow the chamber to heat up as much as normal. What do you think??

Just keep one thing in mind, the b-pipe chambers themselves do not usually fail due or have problems running ultra hot. Although the coating may allow the shell of the chamber to stay cooler the real issue is keeping your couplers cool enough so you dont melt them. If it isnt that much more than powdercoating give it a shot and try it. Who knows u might stumble upon something!

I personally like ceramic coating better. Its been years since I had my chamber ceramic coated and it still looks great. No sign of any peeling or bubbling like I bet powder coating would have done by now.

If the chamber is run cooler, so will the couplers. The heat comes from the chamber side, not the head pipe side, which is water cooled.

$35? Damn. Now I'll get mine done.

The process of ceramic coating is really neat. I wish I had a ceramic tumbler.
All I can do is powdercoat.

they are trying to sell you an expensive coating, get it powdercoated and call it good.

Haven't you ever heard of the term "heat is horsepower"?

Keeping the heat inside the exhaust chamber will increase the sonic wave reflection and will make the pipe perform better.

The chrome ceramic coating should last forever and it won't turn that ugly dark grey color like the chrome powder coatings.

Zero beat me to it. The ceramic will last unlike powder coating. you can run the pipe as hot as the couplers can stand. When the couplers burn and other things melt you've gone to far. You'll find that the engine will run awsome just before parts melt, so its getting just up to that point thats the trick.

Ditto, my dry pipe is ceramic coated. Over a year now with no problems.

Ceramic coating is not like powdercoating. Its not a layer that can peel off and has surface tension. Its actually "pounded" and embedded into the porous surface of the metal itself... So i doubt the screws were in the least effect.

How much heat is generated during the ceramic coating process ? is it enough to deheat treat the alloy ?

Josh broke a bed plate after it was ceramic coated, is it related ?

Ceramic coating cast parts is a bad idea! I know from experience. Subjecting cast aluminum parts to the heat of the coating process significantly weakens the metal. I have cracked a factory b-pipe manifold in two, and both bed plates. Normal powdercoating is fine b/c it subjects the parts to 450 degree temps. Ceramic coating subjects it to much higher temps for longer periods.

Powdercoating takes 350-400* for 10-15 minutes. Never more. Ceramic coating takes 500*. That will not affect your casting in the least.

Where did you get your information?
The company that coated my pipe with ceramic said the pipe will not get over 250 degrees at any time during the coating process.

I also have my manifold coated.

Its a thermal spray then it gets put in a vibrator to be polished out.

Im pretty sure this is the temp they told me, Im going to shoot the guy a email and confirm.

Ok just called the guy.
He said they normally take a part up to 500*'s depending on what the part is made out of. He took my pipe up to 300* and just baked it for a lil longer time than if it was at 500*.
