Speaking to a stunned circle of reporters, friends and family, Reed said "Yeah everyone says Supercross is the premier series, but they aren't in my boots. No matter how many races I win, people still talk about Ricky Carmichael and his winning streak. I'm so over that. I want to be the best in a new discipline and that's my new plan."
Reed continued "Have you ever jumped a 160 foot gap and felt the rush? It makes SX seem like child's play. The bigger the gap, the better the buzz, that's what I say. People respect FMX'ers and that's because they aren't riding around complaining that the stadium is cold or they don't have the right fuel…hell, there aren't even any regulations about fuel, we could run jet fuel if we wanted to."
"Not to mention it's the economics of it all. I mean, it takes about 20 seconds to jump a huge gap doing a 360 or whatever the new trick is. And it's only ONE jump, not jump after jump, riding around slower riders all day. One jump and it's Miller Time…cool. That's just a few of the reasons for this career change."
Reed will start his new career, joining Travis Pastrana and Brian Deegan for their new FMX tour "Legends of the Old Skool" at an arena near you. Stay tuned for more details.
