Surfriding Charleston, South Carolina and area riders?

I know there are more of you guys around here but we need to get together more often.

After 2 years of driving down to Savannah, Jax and St. Augustine we are just about exhausted on the whole thing and are finally looking for places to ride surf locally.

I know SC doesn't have the best surf nor are her shores jetski friendly so it has it's setbacks but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I've been scowering google earth and maps looking for places to launch and ride so i would be interested in knowing of any places guys know to be ski friendly and maybe even a few that have never been tested?

So far we have ridden off Hunting Island and Folley. Both have substantial rides out to the surf and have small to decent surf for the effort. We managed to launch and ride from the beach on Hunting Island but I doubt that would last long if it became a regular thing. We found 2 launch points off Folley but the concrete ramps are hard on skis and there's no where to pull the skis off to the sides.

I am going to check out a couple spots on Sullivans Island this weekend but so far it's not looking great.

Anyways, i'm gathering intel at this point and always looking for more riders and new spots. If your interested, come on out, if you know of any spots then post them here and maybe we can get a local group going.

I'll ask my roomate for some ski intel. He rides a crouch but pretty much grew up in the area. Every once in awhile I'm that way just haven't brought then ski to ride solo.

I live in the upstate, it has been years since I took my ski to the SC coast. I usually go to FL. I hope you find a spot.

There are tons of couches in the area but every once in a while i see a standup on a trailer or on craigslist so I know they are here.

I need to ride more than once a month so finding a local spot is critical. Lakes just don't do it for me anymore. I know there was a crew of ex racers that used to ride Sullivans Island but i bought the guys Octane last year so he doesn't even ride anymore.

Wish we still had the google earth rider map program on the site. I thought that was a neat tool when this site first came out.

I agree Andy, I brought it up again last month but never heard if the new sites are compatable or not. It was a security thing with the old site.

It was Folley we rode before and im going to scope out a few new spots either tonight or tomorrow morning around Sullivans Island.

I wonder if they will let us launch off the beach on Edisto Island right at the big restaurant when you first get to the beachfront? They have lots of parking and hard sand for dragging beach carts plus they have a nice bar to grab lunch at. They welcome bikers so why not freeriders?
