Cheap mod to help find a sunk ski

Has anyone ever thought about installing a dye pack inside their de-foamed skis as a cheap mod to assist in finding it if it goes down????? My idea would be to install a dye pack inside a small container with holes drilled in it stuck in an area of the hull that doesn't normally see water. dye packs run about 20 dollars and work REALLY WELL. you can also get septic system dye tablets for less then that and they would work really good too (the river in Boston uses septic tablets to dye the river every year for st patricks day.)

this would give people at least a few minutes to locate where its at and drop a marker on it.

I am going to get a few different types of dye material to experiment around with the idea and drop a few containers in calm/rough water to see how it works.

There is not a single dry spot inside my SXR after riding. I was just picturing it sitting on my stand and a stream of green water coming out of my versiplug..

This really is not a bad idea. A medicine bottle with some holes drilled in it and mounted to the battery strap or gas tank would not see that much water unless you really flooded it. Yes. I am all for proper floatation................ but it is a thought. I think a good one. When I first saw this I was like "Get out of here"............

I agree that a ski should have as much foam as possible and I will never run a ski without as much foam as I can fit but I don't think a lot of people really test their skis to see if they float after adding footholds or doing hull modifications.

I think sticking a bottle filled with this stuff underneath a hood or up in a high spot of the ski would just be extra insurance. If your ski gets wet in all places you could create a splash guard that would prevent it from getting wet. I am going to experiment around with the idea abit to see what works best.

The dye is biodegradable and isn't toxic so there wouldn't be an issue. I just read a article on someone dumping 4 dye packs in a river and the entire river turned green 0.o. People were worried about the fish population but it caused no harm

In a world where people think that vapor trails from aircraft are actually the government "dusting" humans; I could see some moron causing a lot of trouble over it.

was more thinking of a bright float on a rope or string that would pop up to the surface instead of dye.pressure released canister could work but where to mount it?
