Yes. Some kind of device that releases after x amount of pressure. Or maybe a small string so once the buoyancy pulls x amount on it, it breaks? I am sure something already exists, just have to find it.

yeah but then you have to feed it occasionally,house it and make sure it likes water and fit on the ski.not all do.i'm pretty sure it'll find it's way up if boat sinks though

Mine would be sitting just above the deploy depth and right below the visual depth ...

High test Fishing line or similar wound up inside a pill bottle that is attached to the base of the bottom of the the handle pole. Drill hole in lid, tie floaty device to line (outside of lid) Ski starts to sink yank floaty thing to get the process started and it should (should) auto feed line until it runs out or the ski hits bottom. Also gives rider something to hold on to in order to ensure it deploys completely.

You could probably look at some sort of velcro type material to hold the floaty to the boat, but pulls away from the velcro once the ski sinks because of buoyancy. Therefore creating an auto deploy feature...


To the OP, I like where your head's at. My concern is how long the dye bleeds out for.
If it stops running out in less than 5 hours, I'm not sure I would trust it. Also if there is little to no current, you could have a 1000+ sq/ft area dyed. "Well, we know its here somewhere."

Why haven't we considered magnets? Have your floating marker stick to ski with a magnet. Magnet should hold marker to ski regardless of wetness but release when the ski sinks.
