I had something similar happen with my old 550, was jumping it off and boom, Had fuel in bottom of the hull and it flashed.

Did not need any help getting the coupler installed. slid right on. No effort, I think that is the problem. It is too soft and or too loose.Did you try boiling the coupler? It helps stretch it out but also boils off all the oils left from manufacture and takes the slip out of it.
i know this is old but somebody referenced it and holy cow! this is exactly the kind of thing that happens to me! i didnt know there were two of us on this planet, and so close to one another is scary. only one state away :0
