Cheaper gopro alternative? Info wanted.

Ive been using a contour roam, not due to any specific choice other than it was a christmas gift, worked great all winter and just as well in the summer. full 1080 hd, plenty of mounting options, the lens rotates so you can even mount the thing upside down and have upright video.

a few other quick features i find handy, battery is internal built in so no screwing around..has lasted more than ive'd used it on any given day.
also as mentioned already waterproof so no need for an extra case, however the case they do sell gives the added bonus of floating, so if your tear off your mount, the cam just bobs at the surface and saves you from buying another.
the switch for on/off is HUGE and great for quick action or when using gloves..no need to fumble around loking for a small button.

would i have gone with this as my first choice...who knows, but after being gifted one and using it...i got no complaints.

Midland action cam does a really nice job. It can be found at Mills Fleet Farm. They are marketed to hunters here in the Midwest. I'm thinking about $90 for base model. A buddy bought one there and used it on our snowmobile trip. It has a slightly wider FOV. than the Midland I bought at Radio Shack for more money. The thing I don't like about it is I can only download video to a computer. The format will not let me burn to DVD to be viewed later with a DVD player. Will Gopro or Contour cameras allow burning to a DVD to view on a DVD player? Anyone ?

contour saves as quick time movie format by default, its been so long since i've burned a dvd, with smart tv's, usb sticks or hdmi cables it either goes from usb to tv, computer/hdmi to tv or with the new smart tv it goes computer to tv via wireless network.

that being said im sure you could use a simple program such as windows movie maker, edit your footage, save it as an ISO image and burn it to a dvd.

that being said i had a dvd player that would play many formats of data ie mpeg, mp4 mkv etc.. there are many options, find out your movie format and also what formats your player will accept, then google will do the rest for you.

hope this helped

Interested in getting a camera similar to a gopro but can't afford 200$+ for one. Are there any cheaper alternatives that still put out good quality videos?
