Been there. I tweaked my neck and could not get rid of a terrible headache , I could feel my heart pulse behind my right eye. After two weeks I was ready to try any snake oil. One adjustment and it was gone , like flipping a lightswitch. I could have kissed the man.

So, was he offering? I hope he didn't want to charge extra.

back on topic...
i know a ton of people that have done the chiro thing for years, but never seem to get any better (they are always going), i think for the "one time" ailment i might try a chiro, but if i had to go on a regular basis, i would be looking for another answer.

i have found that for back problems the best thing for you is stretching REGULARLY, yoga especially... now, if i only did that regularly :smashfreakB:

I went in after injuring my back '' lifting heavy steel at work '' . After the x-ray and the initial exam I had 1 leg shorter than the other and a crooked spine , well thats funny my crooked back and short leg never bothered me my whole life till I lifted something way too heavy ,well because he said this will take time I stayed with him for 6 months, then quit after absoleutly NO results ... ...... then on my own after lots of core strengthing and getting in shape and lots of TIME , the pain went away.. needless to say my short leg /crooked spine no longer are a problem !! its amazing what exercise and time can do . Im sure chiro has its place for some people ... but not me due to my experience with it . chiro seems very controversial as to the results from person to person .so I agree exercising/ stretching / conditioning/ yoga, and if you see me leaning on my blaster .. I'm not in pain im just crooked and short on one side LOL !

I'm not a Chiro but my Ex is, and she and I have owned a clinic for the last 3 yrs and I find this thread so funny. In less than 25 posts we have just about covered all the same age old comments about Chiropractic no matter what group one travels in.

The one thing that is absolute is that Chiro alone cannot fix you. Unless one addresses the reason for the subluxation in the first place, then it will return. Wether it be accident related or poor posture due to job function or habit, the biggest problem I see is that most people do not take the time to fully understand the concept of an adjustment and therefore either don't do the real things required for the benefit or simply expect it to fix everything instantly. How can 1 adjustment weekly or possibly monthly correct for poor posture from sitting in front of a computer for 8 hrs a day, everyday for how long? It cannot and we would be delusional to thing so.

Chiropractic is not the miracle cure, but combined with a healthy lifestyle, Chiropractic adjustments can improve nerve signal and response allowing your body to perform to it's innate design and improve your quality of life. Adjustments alone cannot offset the cumulative effects of a poor lifestyle and should never be expected to. However, when one is ready to make the commitment and the necessary changes to correct a bad lifestyle and get healthy again, then a chiropractic corrective care plan is a good addition to the plan. You cannot be truly healthy without full and optimum nerve response.

There are many different paradigms within the field of Chiropractic, varying from those who believe they can cure everything to those who believe that their job is to relieve subluxations and that's it. There is a new movement in Chiropractic that is more focussed on healing from the inside out and explaining the "big picture" to a patient. If you can find one of these new "Innate Wellness Practitioners" then you are lucky and will likely enjoy your visits to the chiro and experience great things. If you just get the old bone cruncher, well, I'm sorry and good luck.

When shopping for a Chiropractor, keep an open mind and look for an advertised "Wellness Practitioner". I have been very fortunate to have met some incredible doctors and have had the opportunity to attend health conferences all over the world for the last few years and I think Chiropractors are incredible!

The single most important thing you will get from a good Chiropractor is information, so listen carefully. It is not their job to fix you, it is their job to relieve subluxation and educate you on how to remove other obstacles so that your body can fix itself. If you are looking for a miracle cure, go to a regular doctor, they don't have one either but they will prescribe you something that will take your mind off the real problem.

I also researched a treatment system using Cold Laser Therapy. For anyone suffering long term from sports or work related accidents that just don't seem to ever get any better, I strongly reccomend looking into this treatment. It didn't fit our clinics paradigm but it did have some very promising results on many different cases.

I agree 100%. It does not fit in my office paradigm either. I do have one for personal use. With a $5K price tag for entry level units. You can get a lot of adjustments that will have greater affect on structure and function of the body. It is a great adjunct to the Chiropractic adjustment. Alone it is hit or miss IMPO. Chiropractic is the most cost effective healthcare choice.
