Cleaning up and "improving" my ski

I traded a quad for this X-2, and I really don´t know what I´ve got.

Looks like a PJS exhaust manifold, PJS Exhaust pipe, Old school Mikuni BN carb, size unknown without measuring but I would bet 44mm, an SBN 44 would be a much better carb but you do have the intake for it since they use teh same intake, Jet Dynamics intake grate. It has been painted but the rest of the stuff looks stock. I don't like that what I guess is a primer handle sticking out the side of the hull. Other than that, not a bad looking ski.

It´s repainted, and it seems to be well done, and it´s a quite nice colour. I think it´s repainted on the inside to, and the vin nr haven´t been replaced.

The carb is 38mm (measured it). The choke handle will be replaced by a 12v connection for easy charging of the battery. I always start up with the hood open, so I dont really need an external choke handle.

No warnings. Just remember how it all goes back together! If you don't know anything about the electrical system, it may help to get yourself a shop manual. You can download them around here somewhere, or I could probably send you a few pages of something if you need it.
Looking at the steering, I would say it's an 89. It has the direct steer, and I think 89 was the only year they did that. Not 100% sure on that, but my old 1989X2 was direct steer.

Yes, I´ve red about the squirrel cage typ of steering, and how direct steering was only used for one year. So it´s probably a upgraded 89 then.

There where no major stages, but pretty straight forward. I have taken some pictures though.

The playground

Part of the pipe removed, and wires disconnected.

More of the pipe removed for clearance, and all cables but the one to the CDI disconnected (pulled the motor first).

And out it goes, no problemo!

The little motor was freezing from sitting all alone in the garage, so it jumped into the shower

Make sure you reinforce that steering cable end in the engine compartment. It WILL bend and break! A small diameter aluminum tube works great.

After I pulled the motor, it was time to clean up the mess

Some degreasing, scrubbing with a brush and water was all it took to get it this clean.

There is a hose connection that wasn´t connected to anything. Does anybody know what that is for?

That is a drain for the stock exhaust pipe. You can cap it. Also it can be used for dual cooling.

Ohh, and before I cleaned up the engine compartment, I removed the choke handle, and replaced it with a 12v outlet (or in my case inlet, cause I will use it for charging).
