Surfriding Coast Guard Searches for Fla. Panhandle Jet Skier

I really hate hearing of these situations. It's so tempting to go out still when you can't find a partner. I hope he is safe now. I really REALLY hope...

I had the chance to ride Isaac's slop here in West Palm...opted out. The water was a mess. Not exactly strong winds for a big storm, healthy for sure but not huge. But the water was a mess, still is actually. Maybe in the panhandle the surge could be fun to ride...but why go it alone?

damn....

sounds like a fisherman, clipped from a related article I saw:

He did not know where exactly the man launched his jet ski, but his son told Coast Guard officials that he frequently would ride 5 to 7 miles off of Fort Pickens to go fishing.

Update: I just called ABC 3 WEAR News room in Pensacola and a 5pm news story will tell that the coast guard believes they have found his body....sorry to report the bad news...

RIP Jetski Storm Rider

So sad to hear and so unnecessary. We take so many precautions in so many other sports, I am always amazed at how few we take in this one. Not saying that it would be life saving all scenarios but a personal locator beacon should be a no brainer just like a life jacket.

I paid $250 for mine and I never ride without it, even in tiny surf days. I couldn't imagine heading out in big water without it.
