Cold Surf Suit?

Both o'neill and rip curl are good suits. I have an o'neill 2-3, 3-4, and a 5-4. I can wear the 5-4 comfortably in air/water temps down into the mid 40's. The 4-3 is good for temps down into the mid 50's.

i wear a 4/3 rip curl dawn patrol suit. Its pretty affordable and performs well IMO. Last march I rode here in denver the day the lake opened after ice off. The water temp was 39 and the air temp was 32. I cant say i was toasty warm, but i managed to ride for a good hour, and might have lasted longer if i would have been riding with a friend. I should also note i tried my best to stay out of the water and only fell twice. The key is to get a good set of neoprene socks to wear inside some shoes, and make sure you have a decent set of gloves. this year i might do the hand warmer mod to help out. they also have a heated vest you can wear under a wetsuit. havent tried it but have been wanting to.

I need to get on the hand warmer band wagon! Waiting for a few more replies before I pull the trigger on Oniel or Ripcurl - Im guessing that a 4/3 should be good enough I'm afraid that a 5/4 might be overkill - but I have a standard suit so I thought I would pick up an extreme cold type suit?

I surfed So cal most of my life, wore a 3/2 in winter and was fine. Iam in No Cal now so I wear a 4/3 for most of the time and a 5/4/3 dry suit with built in hood for really cold days like 45. I did ocean side in late sept on my ski, it was windy and cold but the water was warmer than the air, the 4/3 worked good. Your not sitting in the water all day like surfing so the 4/3 should be plenty. I barely us my 5/4/3 up here so it's to much for down there IMO

Used the wetsuit previous years (warm but restrictive). So this year, I've got high hopes w/ my O'Neill drysuit. The top is loose and 'breathable'?.

Couple of days down to 0, tends to cool our playground

excel 3-2 is more then sufficient for early morning oside rides. if its windy you can rock a tour coat, but who the hell wants to ride when its all blown out??? do not buy a 4-3 it will be way too warm and restrict movement. also get nice fin socks to wear inside your shoes and pair of gloves so your hand warmers dont toast you

Are saying you already have a 3/2 and want something warmer for the colder days?

I've ridden cold water/air for 30 years and I've tried practically everything. Best thing I have found is a good 3/2 wetsuit, 3 to 5mm on your feet, a 1.5 mm rash guard, good hand warmers and summer gloves, and a float coat PFD. The float cost is the key piece of gear, they are amazing!

Everyone has their own favs, but I can tell you that this combo very works well in 30 degree water temps and I'm never cold while riding. Now someone come up with a good combo for post riding and hanging out on a 30 degree beach.....that's when I get cold!
