Compatible cylinders (701?) for 650 case?

My backup/guest ski is a 1990 650, stock case. My jug is bad and I want to replace the cylinder.

Can I bolt on a 701 jug without modifying the 650 case? If not, will any Yamaha 650 jug fit (I saw some for a VXR on Ebay, but they are different part numbers for stock, and the VXR is almost 1/2 the price of a SJ 650 jug new!).

I'm bad with all the engine designations, I guess the 650's were the 6m6?

I need to know what to look for on Ebay etc....

I have my stock head from my present ski, which was a 701 when it was stock, so I'm set for a head to match if I can mount a 701 jug. Also, I had to cut off my old Protec pipe years ago, so the exhaust on it now is stock 701, so again I'm good from that standpoint....

Pretty sure you need to enlarge the area of the case where the cylinders go down in. other than that i think the cylinder itself will bolt up.

Hey Soulman, long time, no hear!

That is correct like Keith said.
Any 650 YAM cylinder(6M6) will go back on those 6M6 650 cases.
If you want to put a 61X 701 or 62T cylinder on, you have to open up the cases to accept the sleeves. The clearancing is not much at to make one fit. You could do it with a barrel drum sander if you wanted.

Thanks.

So ALL the 650 jugs were 6m6? Microfiche has different part #'s and significantly different prices.

The 61x is the SuperJet cylin? Is the only diff on the 62t the size of exuast bolts?
