I stand corrected, But my2005 SXR was not that high. no need for milling or aftermarket head then. Kawi mods, post your findings after you pull that head..

Sxrs were sold new with compression ranging from 150 to 180 psi. Mine was new at 150. Most shops tested every new ski. They sold the lower comp ones and kept the higher comp ones for racing.

well took the head off and the gasket is screwed! 2012-12-23 16.30.14.jpg
the Dome looks like its pitted, from factory... so im going to get a new head gasket and shave the head and see what numbers i can come up with

For future ref, never look at the nnumbers. Only look at the difference in the numbers. if its 10% or more time to tear down. All gauges, IMO, read differently and are for comparison purposes only.

I was told stock SXR's should be at 170PSI or close to. comp gauges vary and so do the skis out the crate. 20 psi on your compression is no bueno homes! im almost in the same boat as you for mine as well mines at 147 even . top end time brother

so final results put the head on with a new gasket and tested it.... both cylinders 175psi now so i was luckily right on the head gasket being messed and found out that .035 off the stock head raises the compression 10psi
