I was wondering if it takes a while to connect the EPIC ignition to the computer? I will plug the cord into the epic and computer then open the program, then click auto connect. It will take 5-10 minutes to find my ignition:banghead:. Is this how long it usually takes or am I doing something wrong? Does the lanyard need to be connected or not? I do put the system in mode "a" before I plug it in.

No this is not normal, Epic should connect really quick ie just a few seconds. The Lanyard should be in and the A curve selected. The only time I have seen issues with slow connection was due to the computer, I have a friend over here that always had a problem with it being slow but I took a couple of laptops over and both worked perfectly. Couls be down to your computer being clogged up with cookies etc? do you run Ccleaner or similar. Perhaps one of the computer techies could chine in on this one...Boyer?

Take note of which port it connects to when it finally does...Next time, select that port instead of the auto option. Also, check the port settings on control panel. Sometimes Bluetooth accessories add a bunch of virtual ports, and add to the connect time because the software scans through all of them. Get rid of any unused ports.

also make sure you installed the software correctly as per the instructions, extracting the drivers from the disk and not just simply copying the contents from the disk to the computer

if you do this the epic will not connect to the computer as the drivers are not installed

X2. The auto connect doesn't work well for me, but if I select the port manually it connects almost instantly

Thanks for all the info guys. I will try it again later and see how long it takes. I have tried to select the correct port its on and the auto feature, and still took a while. I might try another computer and see. It will come up on the computer, but it can take 10 minutes sometimes. Also sometimes it will find it, then loose connection and then find the connection again.

did you install the software propely, if you simply copy the cd contents from the disk this tends to be the result

you need to unzip as per the instructions

ive seen the problem you have when the sortware hasnt been installed correctly

When I have the epic installed in my eBox, I can connect fine as long as my switch is on curve A and the lanyard is connected.

However, if the epic is out of my ski and i have it connected to the battery, it will not connect. Any ideas why?

I tried everything to connect to my EPIC with my Windows Vista laptop and Windows 7 desktop with no luck at all. Finally tried it on my Windows XP work laptop and it connected right away...

Actually had to load maps onto two different EPICS this way.

When installing the software on a windows 7 device, I had to manually install the driver through device manager. Look for the port that is not connected and use the right-click option to install the driver. You'll have to navigate to the directory where the driver is stored through the wizard. Make sure to select the "CDM 2.06.00 WHQL Certified" sub-folder in USB ZIP.

I had one before with a broken conection cable. I talked with chris about it a few times and ended up getting a new cable. Im not saying that was the issue but if you have no joy then see if you can burrow some one elses cable

I would try a different computer first to isolate where the problem lies. I tried 3 different PC's before I found one that worked out. Also, XP seems to give the best results if that's an option for you.

I didn't have much luck with Windows Vista and I haven't tried again since I upgraded my main laptop to WIN7. I rescued a Dell Latitude with XP Pro from the shredder at work and set it up as a dedicated PC just for the garage and basically just for programming the EPIC. It's been rock solid so I haven't had a need to try other platforms.

If you are still having issues, look for a damaged cable, connection or possibly even water intrusion somewhere. Water can act the same as the curve selector switch and put the communication lead to ground so it will not communicate.
