Convince me to backflip!

I've come a long way in the past 2 years in my stand up career. Started to get my rolls down (in surf) and want to be back flip ready for Daytona. I'm told that rolls are more technical then flipping but i can't get over the fear factor. My main fear is hitting the bottom and getting hurt. If I get over this and want to go for it, what are the steps to pulling a successful rotation?
My ski is a 03 RN
-4.5 hull
tubbie destroyers
rrp steering
b pipe msd head etc
NO TRIM

well I am no expert. I have yet to ride one out. But from my experience on flatwater, you will get over the fear of it after your first few times landing upside down. Just go try it! but remember to hang on to the ski and crash safely. I have also nosed one into the bottom, otherwise would of rode it out probably, that broke some stuff but I was ok. There are plenty of threads on here that explain the technique.
Here's my footage from the summer- Crashin' Safely.....

Wilkey's form is perfect, check out the video.

IMO, you have to see yourself puling through it, you have to commit to it. I see a lot of guys trying, going up the face of a wave and then going stiff, you need to hang off the back, pull into the bars when the flip is near its peak and spot your landing.

You will be amazed how big of a difference it make when you throw your head back to spot the landing!

What ski will you be on, I wana see the attempts!!

get in deeper water and flop one without to much height...its not bad after you do it once. I also found that i got the nose further around on flips that were off axis.
make sure you look were you want to go.... First time i did, all i saw was blue sky then splat b/c i didn't spot my landing. its fun if your ski is setup to do flops and a you don't break anything...i have yet to pull one off though.

Make sure you flip on a chest to head high wave on the outside break in Daytona just as the lip of the wave is throwing out , nail the throttle 12' before hitting the lip, stick your butt out and pull the bars back to your chest at the apex of the jump or before if you don't feel like you aired it out. DO NOT BAIL ! commit 100% or don't do it . Nose it in for soft landings . It is hard to get hurt under rotating if you have some water under you .

I agree with Zimmy, you have to commit and believe you'll get around. Look Back and when at the peak pull the bars into your chest.

Just know that if you haven't committed by Daytona, we'll think less of you as a man.

If you do attempt it and have a near death experience, I'm making a completely empty promise to you that the Optima Racing and Jetmanic girls will provide mouth to mouth while using their bikinis as tourniquets.

I did my first flip on a full length RN ported 735 bpipe 44's D CUT RIDE PLATE with trim on 9-9-12 with a 4 foot wave in the gulf. The wave I chose had just broken and had white water on it's way down. Ended up nosing in and bumping the bottom (like stabs) with no damage. If it's chest deep water or less don't even try it. Do you have experience with low height flops from 180 hop flip attempts or boat wakes just to get the feel of handling ski upside down ? With no trim you will have to hit the wave a little late to get good rotation or you will need height from a little longer power run with speed. With more height while learning you risk hitting bottom more imo. What have you done to work up to this ?

Just riding with all my buddies who are started bustin out can can flips, and no handers. It's almost like we feed of each other's energy. It's great.
I was happy with just rolling but this is definitely in my near future.
I haven't truly being upside down yet though ..
Ski is fully reinforced including defoaming, adding extra glass inside pump area, and refoamed. So it should hold up !

x2ufoolz flipped a bone stock 650 superjet, and I did my first on my stock hull square with a b pipe and head. Its 100% mental. I pancaked a few, and if you don't let go it doesn't hurt at all! Just get over the fear, hit the wave late, yank, and look back! Good luck!

My advise is not to try to flatwater flip a sj unless you have alot of motor my ski is setup similar to your but with more motor and i have trim i flipped. Mine a cpl times last season a d the last time i did my trim lever went through my shin yes it hurt and tore my acl up
