Just be careful in Daytona. I haven't flipped, but it's important to note you can get a 3' wave in 1' of water in Daytona.

12 inches of water? Don't you guys worry about all the sand and other chit that goes through your pump and cooling system? Anyone pulling flips, rolls, and other types of ill chit in one foot of water are out of your friggin minds if you ask me. Sounds dangerous but to the op if you're not scared of those conditions by all means just hike your skirt up and go for it.

Ratti is a flatwater guy. I wouldn't worry much about rolls in 1 foot of water. It's flipping and not coming around 100% I would worry about.

You surf guys aren't wired right I could only imagine lawndarting in a foot of water just thinking about it hurts

Oh its fun man. You should try it! The pics above ended me up with a broken right wrist that needed some metal parts to put back together.

Just as long as you don't do flips or barrel roll re-entry attemps where the nose goes in first you'll be fine. Sometimes its a beach break and the only fun waves are in a foot of water. Gotta take what the ocean gives that day.

As for the flip it really is way easier than rolling. It's all mental like you said. The earlier suggestions are spot on. Cruise up to a wave at a slower speed than for a roll, wait for the wave to lip/whitewater, then punch the throttle, squat down, yank back hard and explode off the lip while looking behind you with head tilted straight up. It will come around so fast you won't know what to do. And no trim required in surf with a shortened hull(or a stock hull for that matter) so don't feel like you need trim to get it around.

I don't think that anyone intentionally rides that shallow, but every year someone hits the bottom. Daytona has 20 ft of beach at high tide and well over 200 ft of beach at low tide. You can be 100ft off shore and only be waist deep.

Some of the experienced flippers hit the break wherever it is. That was my point. Don't just hit a wave because you see other people doing it.

This thread is making me anxious. I'm in the exact same spot developmentally speaking as IWannaYama. Really hoping to make it around next week in daytona!

I popped my bf cherry in Daytona. Just commit to flip and don't let go. The has is your friend. It's better to over rotate then under rotate.

Let me help convince you... The satisfaction you will get from being able to convince your mind to risk life and limb to achieve a goal is awesome.. every fiber in your body will say no but once you concur your fears and face the wave its awesome. You will go home with your head held high knowing you can do something most are to scared to even attempt, its the best feeling. if thats not enough remember chics think its cool too. Be safe, wear your safety gear make sure your footholds are tight. Good luck we will be looking to see it at daytona.

When we were younger and riding motocross, there was a group of chicks that would come out and show us their breasts when we hit the really really big jumps.

I bet the cherry Buster in Daytona would be way more interesting if we could arrange something like that for inspiration. Just saying....

What was that about getting stiff and not following through?

I really struggle with the follow through. But i've been focusing so hard on flipping that I started to not enjoy riding. So i've since taken the attitude that 'i'll do it when i'm ready'.
