there are some cool tricks on there... better than todays 20 backflips in a row followed by a barrel roll and and back flip

be interesting to see if some of the current pros could even pull some of the old skool tricks off!

Loved watching Parr at WF. He had an awesome routine. Stoyer has some good style too. Auquaholic woo! Me and my 21 yr old son just watched this vid and he even said he liked watching that vid over what todays routines are like.

Awesome find!!

1997 was a really special year for me. That was the year I did the whole Big Red National tour. 11 different cities across the US and Canada. Hanging out with all of these guys(who were my heroes and inspiration), was really a stellar experience. Each weekend, watching these guys compete live, was so badass. Memories of that year are indelibly etched in my mind.

Thanks for posting this!
PS Where was Bobby Biggs at that years WF?

Today's power and 1997 routines jam packed with variety--why can't we have it all? I say each trick gets scored once and then repeated tricks are scored "0". Make the time limit 2:30 or maybe 3 minutes. Maybe it would force the pros to expand their number of tricks.

I agree with every single thing all of you said, the 3 minutes idea would reallly go to new tricks being made or exploring old tricks just cooler versions of them. I love all the stock hull superjets!!!

The tricks are definitely bigger these days but the routines were more polished and much more entertaining back then.

Here are my 5 vids on youtube from 1997. These are the only copies in existence as far as i know. They are all from the same competition that was sponsored by Wescoast aftermarket company. Featuring Eric malone, Rick Roy, Lloyd "Showtime" Burlew, Kenneth "kilowatt" Wood, and Bobby Biggs(master of the Fx-1). I dont know what happened to the sound on a couple of them. There is a distorted noise along with the sound track now.
There was a 3K purse for Freestyle that day! The good ol days.

Good old skool freestyle right here:

Holy crap, the guy at 1:00 in the yellow and green, does he do a sub and front flip under water? Those tricks blow away on the no skill high displacement tricks.
