Super Jet Cooler plug for hotter weather...any thoughts

I know this is probably off the wall thinking, but would a cooler plug help keep the engine temp down? Going from a #7 to #8? It’s fixing to get crazy hot here again this year, so I figure with outside temps plus the heat generated from the engine it would kinda balance out? I think it would help for a stock engine, but with a B-pipe, MSD enhanser and 170psi stock head, might not have a choice but to run 7’s.

May want to check your manual

stock yamaha 701 should call for b8hs or br8hs

"es" plugs are 3/4 inch long and used in most aftermarket heads

the OEM head requires 1/2 in length plugs (hs)

you shouldn't be running 7's. maybe if you were riding in the south pole in the dead of winter. go back to 8's and save the motor some life.

My stock motor ('04) had a factory sticker calling for b7hs. That being said I have an aftermarket head and have always run br8es.

A stock SJ does indeed call out a B7HS plug. I switched to a B8HS because I can get them in solid core when the B7 are not available. I didn't notice any difference in performance or engine heat after the switch

just for the record, saying a spark plug is hot or cold isn't referring to the temp of the spark but rather the heat rage of the plug itself.

a hot spark plug will allow detonation to occur earlier where as a colder plug will foul out at idle because it has to much insulation. the idea is to find the right median. im just speaking in general so done get your pantys in a wad!

Not True.

I have 2 2004 sj's that clearly call for B7HS with decals on the motor as well as the manual.
I only changed plugs when I changed the head. My wife's ski is still bone stock and runs B7HS.......AS it should.

What do you mean not true? read post #8 where I said stock OEM SJ's call for a B7HS and then see the pic of the sticker on the pipe in post #16 You are saying the same thing.

Forgive me please. I didn't read it all.
But....how hot , or how cool a plug runs has little to nothing to do with actual firing. NGK plugs= lower number-hotter plug. A plug is rated by how quickly it cools off at the head. It has nothing to do with the actual firing in the cylinder.

No worries- I was just correcting Carl and SJ-133 for calling out for B8hs on stock SJ's I think they were staring at SJ-113 Avatar for to long, almost got me too Ha ha! I never did understand the heat ranges on plugs anyway and like previously stated I actually run B8hs's because thay are available in solid core and B7hs are not. I never noticed any difference between the two.
