Are couch mounts taller than sj mounts? I want to buy some for a new build, but I've never done this mod. Just want to make sure my couplers still line up. And I won't have any crazy alignment issues.

Couch mounts are a tiny bit taller. Usually its enough moving them towards the side of the ski before tightening the screws.. If that isn't enough you drill the hole in the bedplates a tiny bit bigger, and it will fit nicely.. Good upgrade running couch mounts instead of SJ mounts..

for the money, id go with rhaas mounts. same price as regular mounts, but way stronger and lifetime warranty!

I hold the mounts in a gloved hand and using a high speed metal cutting saw with an abrasive blade, I lock the saw on and press the base of the mount against the side of the blade. I rotate the motor mount as I'm shaving the bottom off until I get to the right thickness. Might not be the safest but sure works well and have never had a failure. Takes less then a minute to do each one.

I always ran them in my superjet and had a set of rhaas mounts in my rickter when I built it. I decided to go with couch mounts in my rickter after half a season of riding. I ordered 4 brand new oem couch mounts. I had to mill a light 1/8" off the bottom and almost 3/16" off the bed plates to get them to align properly
Yes i shimmed mine down with a belt sander, i had a Superjet mount to hand to ensure i had the right thinkness. I also kept swapping between mounts as to not let them get to hot.
