Custom/Hybrid Countersteer swap on a ski?

I am very used to riding sportbikes and the concept of Countersteer is comfortable to me. New to standups, does anyone swap the steering cable so the standup will Countersteer? Meaning the handlebar would steer opposite of where you turn it. On motorcycles in the twisties, you push forward on the handlebar side of which you're turning towards. Maybe this is just something I'll get used to on the ski but initially I relate to bikes and want to turn outward and lean inward. Seems like it would give better steering clearance versus normal. Anyone ever heard of such a setup? I appreciate your thoughts here.

Many if not most of use also come from bike of some sort, I personally have been riding and racing dirt all my life and riding SS street for years. turning your steering around is not somthing that you are gonna wanna do. just get out and ride a bit and you see how it is. I am still learning new technics for turning, steering and throwing the ski around and it is not that far off what you are used to that are just different variables that you have to take into account.

Try it before you learn to use standard steering and see if it works better. I cant imagine too many people will try it for more than a minute if they have learned to ride with standard steering..

Just get on the ski and don't think. It'll come to you quicker than you know and you'll forget all about this crazy backwards steering idea. It's not a bike and you need to steer vs lean and counter steer.

Sounds like a horrible idea Do you countersteer in your driveway? How about the gas station, or parking lots? That handling effect is completely speed related on motorcycles, unlike steering on watercraft. Having the bars turn the opposite direction will actually give you poor control over a ski. As you lean into a turn, you'd be pulling the bars with you, increasing the tightness of your turns with little ability to correct your coarse.

Hey man, I thought the EXACT same thing when I bought my ski... I couldn't wrap my head around NOT countersteering. I made the same post you just did, and got the same response. I ended up getting used to the ski after a month or so, but I've still got plans on converting to a countersteering setup, at least to try it out. I'm not sure what ski you have, but the easiest way would be to move the steering pivot from one side of the bars, to the other.

Try it out and let us know!

Switch it then let other experienced riders take it for a spin without telling them about the steering swap. Could be funny.

That would be like the (smart) guys that do the Yamaha pole conversion to the Kawasaki and put the steering cable on the wrong side...haha
