Opened up the bottom end of my 701 to replace the crank seals as part of some preventative maintenance while the top end is out getting a fresh bore.
can someone tell me what is considered “normal” for the sound of the pto bearing? The front and centre bearings are very smooth and quiet. The pto bearing on the other hand has a bit of a ring to it. Minimal lateral play and no noticeable up and down play.
If this was a wheel bearing on a car I would say its on its way out. But an unsealed crank bearing with thin lube?
I have nothing to compare this with so please chime in if you have some experience with crank shafts.
I should note (for what it’s worth) the rod/ pin/ all other bearings are in beautiful condition. Case was spotless, zero water or corrosion on anything. Even the seals I was replacing were in excellent condition.
Don’t think I can post a video here but I have a short clip I can email anyone who’s interested
