Other CRANK REBUILDING AND PRICES ( who does it and how much? )

From FearmyWrx...

"He helped me a lot and specifically told me to stay away from the sbt cranks. On the other hand I have had an sbt crank in my ski (came that way) for over a year and its been fine."

Did he give specific reasons to stay away from SBT that you are comfortable sharing with us?

No pressure but I figured I would ask...

No, he was just a really good guy to me. When I first got my first ski the bottom end blew out in a couple rides. Someone recommended I take it to competitive crankshafts (they do some maintenance too) and he took a look at it and told me what he thought I should do. He recommended I tear the ski apart and bring him the cylinders, cases, and crank so I could save some money in labor. I thought this was very honest of him and he was genuinely trying to help me out instead of make a buck.

He also told me that theres a lot of people out there that can help me assemble the motor/engine and I should ask around to some of my friends/riding buddies. He said he could rebuilt the crankshaft, bore the cylinder, and I can just buy a top end kit somewhere. He said or he can just do the crank or whatever I wanted him to do. At this time is when he advised me to stay away from SBT and Hot Rods Crankshafts if I got a crank elsewhere. He said they are junk.

Thats All I really have to say, he elaborated on it but I was too new to motorsports to understand. Give them call, he seemed pretty open.

What kind of price though? this freshening up my engine is getting very expensive very fast :p

Think of the cost when the rod goes through the bottom of the case...and then the side of the cylinder, or when the piston skirt breaks off and drops into the crank at 6000RPM and that passes through the cases and the side of the cylinder, with the rod.

The crank was an ADR ( Aaren Davis Racing) who built them at Competative Crankshaft, he shares/shared residency with Competative Crankshafts which Aaren also owned or still shares ownership. I confirmed with Aaren that he used Taiwan Nice Rich bearings. I would like to find out what bearings your friend Jeff uses. The Nice Rich is said to be a high end quality bearing but I was promised Koyo by the dealer.

I believe you, I have known Aaron for equally as long, and Aaron has been known to cut corners. And yes they do share a residency in a shop, but they are different people with different ethics. Call Jeff directly. I have never had work done from him that was less than promised. Like I said, you don't say in business for 20+ years with dishonest business practices.

I bought one of competitive crankshafts cranks about 3 yrs ago, and I'd swear Jeff said it was Taiwan made to his specs. Coupler threads were too tight, but I'm assuming that has been corrected since then. It turned out to be a pretty good crank. After 3 years of abuse, I had it torn apart by crankworks to inspect for damage or wear. All was good so they reassembled it with the same used bearings and I reinstalled and ran it. If i were to buy another new crank, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from competitive.

I also have a couple rebuilt OEM cranks from crankworks. No issues there. Excellent service with a great reputation and they are local to me.

The one and only Hotrods crank I had lasted about 15 hrs before the front bearing started falling apart. Sent it back to them and they sent me a new one and gave me Hotrods/pivotworks/hotcams credit equal to the dollar amount of the engine repair. I appreciate them taking care of the issue, but I'd rather have not had an issue in the first place.
