i have done the outer bearings myself. having someone true the crank beyond yamaha spec is when you get a smooth running crank. having it welded just ensures it stays true. i have a trued/welded crank i hydrolocked the rod on and would love to fix it. it was my best crank. OEM bearings and seals all the way.

I really liked the fact that he trued it to less than a thou all around, the book is something like 4 or 5 thou, cant remember for sure. Mines within a half, and getting to see it done was key for me also. I want to know what Im buying

yeah i have heard that the hot rod cranks can be bad too. i would like to get some v blocks and a good dial indicator to play around with. i already got a big bearing knife to pop the old outter bearings. after that i am lost as for what to do. watching someone do it would be priceless.

If the price sounds too good to be true then you have to think. The quality of the parts is of great importance, if all else equal then quality first. If the crank builder informs you of the variety of quality and leaves it up to you then he is most likely doing what supposed to be done. Also add shipping into the mix.

Crank rebuild seems to be becoming a black art any more. 2 strokes are going the to the way side in favor for these heavy 4 strokes. Amazing that the big 4 have not yet tried putting on of their 450 4 strokes or a twin 900 4 stroke into some of these hulls.

As far as crank rebuilding.....Finding someone who...

1. Knows what their doing
2. Has the right tools and jigs
3. Isnt going to screw you on labor

hasn't been to easy. I see it all the time here. thread after thread...who does the best (insert job here)...

fuel injection on a two stroke, that came from the factory...that would be sweet

Wisconsin Recreational Crankshaft, the guys name is Tom, Tom worked for Seadoo for years in the crank rebuild shop, one day he took his tools and went home, he has been rebuilding every type of two stroke press together crankshaft imaginable ever since and he does damn fine work.
