Crank seal leaking?

So I am trying to unwind and instead of wasting time in front of the boob tube, I decide to initiate some of my winter projects.

I notice this, should I be concerned? This is an '05 and the 1 yr MFGR warranty expires in about 30 days.

I did fog the engine, though I seriously doubt that should have any such result.

If it is under warranty have them do a leakdown test. Reguardless of how much oil you use there shouldn't be ANYTHING coming out of your motor expecially there.

It should hold 8-10 pounds of pressure for 10 minutes and if gravity is pulling oil out that is alot less than 8 pounds

So if I put it back on, with the gasket that was there... need to confirm its condition. I put it back on and torqued just enough for a snug fit to prevent debris from entering the cylinders.

That looks more like grease than 2 stroke oil. It's good practice to lube the seals, most use 2 stroke oil, but maybe grease was used & the excess on the outside flung off.

What about the puddle on the bottom of the bilge then? That does not look like grease.

From my experience, the Yamaha manual pretty much excludes sny warranty anyway! I'd just fix it myself, as a lot of dealers out there are useless anyway.

That is my fear...

On a side note, this occured post ride not during so there is no pressure in the system (i.e. I had part of the exhaust off and head removed after fogging the carbs and sprayed the cylinder and hand turned the coupler to lube up the cyl walls below the piston.

I completely agree dealers SUCK But If you can get them to do anything it is a good thing.... well never mind just fix it yourself. New crank seals are $35 and that is all you need well seals, some yamabond and a torque wrench.... and then you know it is done right...
