Custom lifters question

I'm planning on making some lifters for my SJ. I plan on making them out of wood, coating them with epoxy to waterproof em, using contact cement and a few stainless wood screws to attach to the sides over the existing hydroturf, and then adding turf over them. I always wear shoes when riding. Is there any reason why I haven't heard of anyone using wood? Pretty sure the last SJ I owned had custom made wood lifters and they worked fine for what they were. I think wood would be alright after coated in epoxy to waterproof em? Thoughts?

Just glue on hydroturf lifter wedges. It is their super high denisty foam blocks. You can sand them to the shape you want, cut out the turf and contact cement them directly to the hull.

I saw them, but why not just use wood as long as I coat them in epoxy which should water proof em?
Because working with foam is a really easy method? Yoga blocks are made out of the same material as the hydroturf brand wedges and are 9lx4wx6h and come in a pack of 2 for 11$ shipped on amazon and the leftovers work great for numerous different things including pole pads. Hydroturf brand would be plug and play and basically no effort if you want to go that route. Just a little more expensive.

Why not use some pink foam sheet and a layer of glass to reinforce. Then it will never rot or absorb water.

This is a good recommendation if you had to have it custom made. Sculpting with foam is easy. If necessary, you can glue foam blocks together with loctite power grab so you have have enough material to work with. Then shape with a hot wire and sandpaper. Then lay a couple layers of epoxy soaked 6-8oz glass down as a base layer then reinforce with heavier cloth.

Oh, and if you sandwich 6-8oz boat cloth with 4 layers of 1708 biax, you will have about 5/16"++ part thickness.

I do like the idea of printing molds for composite parts. If someone wants to do this for a superjet chin pad with a small gauge cluster that holds a tiny tach, possibly a small gps speedometer, pm me. Sorry to de-rail
