Progressive wont take a homemade boat for physical damage. But you can insure it as a 2011 (insert boat name here) and hin from dnr. Then its fine

I did the samething, put down "RRP" as the boat manuf on the Progressive website, and got it to issue me a policy with my NJ issued HIN. It would NOT issue me a policy if the word "home, HMD, homemade, ect" was anywhere in the manuf name. I thought I hacked the system until 2 days later they called me up stating they had to retract the binder due to the non-USCG HIN#.

I was told because he could look up and see that eme makes a q8 sky on the website, i was fine. Maybe try calling an agent compared to using a website?

I called 2 different agents prior to the website approach. The second time I talked with a supervisor. I even refernced that other people have policies through Progressive for this type of registration. The supervisor at progressive told me flat out there would be major issues I was ever to claim with a manuf that is not in there system. Both times the HIN# got me denied.

perhaps you could contact the USCG and see if they will inspect and "certify" the HIN??

Personally, I believe in self insurance and wish I could do it for all my vehicles. If I add up all the money i have spent on insurance over the years, subtract the claims I have made, I have handed over a ton of money for nothing. Just keep liability, drop the rest and bank the money you save.

Besides, If my Matrix got stolen tomorrow, I wouldn't have any time to ride since i would be devoting every spare moment to hunting down the bastard who took it.

sorry, I know this is an old thread but I want insurance for my Rickter. I just wanted to see if there are any updates on different companies and if anyone has actually filed a claim with the insurance company they are using. I did see that other people are using Wake Zone, is that still the better insurance company?

figured i'd chime in... I just did progressive online... picked "other" and put Trinity as the maker... put all the info including the HIN that texas assigned me... agreed value of 18k was 322/month (with 1 ticket)... they did say that i need an "inspection" of it also and they would contact me in 7 days for that... I had to put it as a "jet boat" as there was no other option that was close. we shal see what they say upon inspection but they took my money and gave me a binder for now.

Geico $268/year for $20k loss, $100k liability. Homebuilt, registered as a 2014 WDK ROKR. They wanted additional pics showing my HIN tag installed on the ski. @Wet Dreams custom HIN tags worked perfect!
