Cutting Roundie SJ pole

Is it possible to cut my stock SJ pole without having to remove the wires and cables? Also, I want to shorten it by 3" should I cut it at the top or bottom?

At the top you'll only get about two inches. You could do it without removing the cables but it is so much easier with them outta there. Make sure you use stainless rivets when reassembling plus epoxy of course.

I'm considering cutting the pole tonight and plan to ride tommorow so I'm trying to figure out the fastest way to get it done. Ok 3" from the bottom that means I cut 1 1/2" from the top of the bracket. I assume the wires and steering cable are in a seperate tube correct? (see pic) If so is it centered or closer to the bottom. I don't want to cut it accidentally. Also any idea what size rivits I should buy, going to stop on the way home.

I cut all of the bottom and always take the pole of the ski. Use stainless 1/4"-20 button head bolts with nylocks on the inside of the pole with west systems epoxy resin and 404 filler. Make sure each half is sanded well.
No rivets!

Wires and cable run down the pole through a hole or void in the foam.

Just grab a sawzall and cut in only as deep as you need to on all 4 sides. Chisel out the remaining glass, sand them both. Put it back together with epoxy of choice, use stainless nuts and bolts to hold it back in the bracket and make sure you reuse the backing plates that are inside there. I would also recommend just cutting from the bottom, there is no point in doing twice as much work to take 1.5" off each end.

I just did mine and I would NOT have wanted to do it while still mounted
on the ski. Personally, I think it is worth the hassle of taking the pole off.

Chipping and scraping out the old epoxy and fiberglass left in the
boot would not have been fun AT ALL with the pole and all those
cables in the way.

I kept mine on and it did suck but I dont know it would have been that much easier off. The left over glue and glass in my aluminum part came out pretty much in 4 pieces, that was the easiest part!

you could leave the pole mounted. i was able to separate the pole from the base. just drill the rivets out and make sure they are punched through, get a heat gun heat up the base and wiggle the pole side to side. i would recommend taking the cables out and all that.

then i took my pole to the radial arm saw and trimmed it to where i want it. sand both the bottom of the pole and the bracket inside, use some epoxy and filler and stick it in. then drill the holes and use stainless rivets or stainless machine bolts with fender washers on the inside.

I don't doubt you'll get it done. But worst case if you need a pole to ride tomorrow, swing by my place in the morning or I'll bring one to the ramp. Already shortened 4" I think and on a bracket w/turnplate. No excuses for missing another ride :poke:

Not going to have a chance to cut it tonight, so I'll have to make up another excuse.:toothache:

Mine sure didn't...that sucker was glued in GOOD.
The leftover fiberglass peeled out pretty easy prying at it with a
screwdriver, but it left tons of glue and crap in there that I had to
chip out. That ended up being the worst part of it for me.
