Blaster Cutting the hull down.

I am going to shorten the rear of one of my Blaster hulls. RIght now I am looking at a 2-3" trim. This hull needs to be reinforced anyway so I am just going to cut it 3" in since anything more than 4 gets into the pump bolts. Then I will have the transom and 3" of each side in my hands. Then I will reinforce the transom like normal and cut the 3" of hull down to 1/2 inch and add a flange to the inside of the hull for the 1/2 to overlap. From the outside it will be a but end connection. I will lay one piece of cloth on the outer seam and put a bunch of cloth on the inside from a hole in the deck. How much have others cut the rear down on Blaster? The rideplate bolts are going to be an issue. Might leave that part of the hull intact and have some rideplate sticking out D cut. This is theoretical right now. Might change my mind. Any other ideas?

I think 3'' is a good length for me anyways thats what im doing on mine. The ride plate inserts just cut them out and relocate them were you want. Dont for get to show the front some love thats time well spent too...

Hi Pete ! I'm Glad to see your coming back to play in the water again . I rode Zimmys B-1 at wavedaze with a -3 cut on the rear and WOW what a difference ! the ski really flips side to side instantly . its a nite and day difference from stock . at this point I see no reason to go any farther on cutting it back more than 3 '', I feel any more than that will decrease stability/ controll ..... IMO

Ok if I go 3 I will cut 3.5 and leave a 1/2 on the transome to fbut back into the hull with some tabs on the inside. I would like a rockered nose but that loks like a big mess I don't want to make at this time of the year. I am putting a 760 in with GP800 trip and chopping the hull. Want to get this done before it is too hot to ride my dirtbike. I think I might relocate the exhaust from the inner pump to the side while I am in there.

I've been cutting on a hull that is getting a -4 angled chop in the rear (among other things). That does require the rear ride plate inserts to be moved. Not a big deal for me because I was already planning on making my own custom composite ride plates for this ski. They are going to have 'wings' that extend out at the rear of the ride plate in a recess that follows the contour of the rear edge of the hull. The idea is to be able to change the effective length (and trailing edge shape) of the ski from -4 to whatever by bolting on a new plate. I am going to try a number of different lengths and shapes but I imagine I will settle on 2 or 3 that will be swapped out depending on the type of riding I will be doing. I am already making dust but it will be a while before this project gets wet.
