So I finally bought went to town to do everything I could while waiting for Nikad to (not) ship my exhaust, so heres what I did. Bought some tubbies off SurfJetLouie after I rode his 550 one's and loved them. So I glassed them on with some 404, and then ran 8" strips of kevlar down the sides and one down the middle. Turned out good lookin.

And then while I was at it I decided I wanted to do some more stuff. So I cut up my hood with 3 goals in mind.

2-3 inches lower
block off Vents and install new Rear facing hood liner
Hand Holds.

So I started by destroying the liner.... heres a picture of me in action.

Then after that fun was over I cut a slice outta the hood.

Dropped the back, drilled some screws to hold the hood stiff and pull the edges together.

Put down some tape to make the glass retain some type of shape and layed down a layer of 17oz and let it dry.

Ended up that I didn't like the shape it took, so I foamed it the next day and shaped it to what I wanted with a hand file, more of a stock look.

Layed another layer of 17oz over that. And Im about to go back to lay more glass and take more pictures i guess.

Sweet. Don't sand that kevlar.

Why you say that? Im gonna have to get rid of the jagged edges somehow.... Unless i just leave them as "mini-chines"

Ps.

On a side note. That 7oz kevlar is strong ********... The tubbies are made of 2 layers of 12oz biax. When I bolted and epoxied them on, (I painted the entire tubbie in 404'ed epoxy, not just the edges) I could still somewhat easily make them bend in when i pushed in the middle. One layer of that kevlar and they are ROCK hard. Im not sure if I will foam them... Im thinkin no.

Kevlar is so strong that when you sand it you simply knock the epoxy out of it. The strands remain.
The kevlar gets sanded, too, but it takes a while and looks strange.

Sand it and you'll see what I mean.

oh yea, I knew that. But I have enough laminate over it so i'm just gonna sand it down to clear coat it. (thats actually a lie. I have a feeling i will become to lazy to clear coat it.)

Epoxy resin breaks down under UV exposure.
Clearcoat it.

And what is this "laminate" you have over it? Regular glass?

A thick layer of resin is not laminate.
It'd be referred to as top gelcoat.
Looking nice.

Layed on a thick layer of fill and figured out how I want to make the hood liner last night. Put the ski together. As for those wondering... A blaster mod pipe will not really fit in a square nose with the hood liner still installed.... lol. Thankfully I really only lowered the back of my hood.

Edit. And by the way, this is now much much lower than a roundnose with a lowered hood.
