Daytona freeride freak accident

30 seconds after getting in the water Saturday morning, I see a nice wave coming in the far back. I get ready to do what I've done a thousand times, a nose stab. I come up the wave, pull up with my feet, but something goes wrong. Both my feet slip out of the holds and I freeze up and hold on to the bars.. I come crashing down with all my weight on top of me and slam into the water and CRACKKK!!

I guess never letting go is not always the best option..

Ouch! Sorry you got hurt like that. That is hard to watch once you are hurt. How long are you out for?

Riding high idle with no lanyard isnt safe in the surf like that especially in ride zone or did your lanyard break? Your ski could leave zone and hit swimmer, etc.

Lanyard broke off. Think it wrapped around bars somehow. Im still recovering from surgery. Have follow up on the 5th. Can move all my fingers except thumb, but cant apply any pressure.

Thanks! Did you have surgery too? I broke the radius and navicular (i believe) shifted 180 degrees. Needed 9 screws and a complicated 2.5 hour surgery

About 6 months and I was riding again at the LM team weekend, it only bothers me when its cold and wet sometimes, full movement restored.

How can you avoid it? it seems like even if you let go you're still going to be landing on the ski....

Wow, sorry bro! That looked like it hurt, hope it heals up quick. The never let go theory has its place, but not in every situation.
