Daytona... How could it have been better for you????

I just wanted to make a note of some things that I could have done a little better as far as planning goes... no bigges, just notes for future planners of freeride events too...

1. I will have a food sponsor secured for next ride... no running around trying to figure that out at the last minute for the banquet.
ALREADY FOUND ONE... MY NEIBOR HAS A PIZZA JOINT :cool2:

2. I will have a printed schedule prior to the event so people will not miss the check handing over or any other functions. Sorry Laurel...
I'LL HAVE IT AVAILABLE FOR D/L BEFORE AND HAVE SOME PRINTED UP WHEN PEOPLE ARRIVE

3. I will have a club secured for the event w/ shuttles to the strip and back.
I'LL PICK SOMPLACE LIKE THE SPORTS GRILLE... NO PLACES THAT YOU NEED A COLLAR :27:

4. I'll work out a deal w/ the Beach Patrol for us to make a ramp down to the beach from the grass so we don't have to carry the skis so much.

5. I'll have a PA system on the scene... got too busy and forgot to bring it. I want to play music on the pool deck during the day and use it for the banquet/raffle/auction sat evening

Any other things that you thought could be better, please feel free to let me know so we can make the next one even better.
Thanks - Nick

I think it's great to take a step back and say "this event was awesome, not how do we make it even better." That kind of thinking and attention to detail is what's going to drive our sport continually forward.

I agree with all the points you've made. While minor, they would have made things that much better. A ramp would have been fcking awesome.

Nick,
The things you already mentioned are great ideas. I still think with as many people as there were, things went exceptionally well. The only thing I would add is some sort of meet & greet on Friday nite - someplace other than the parking lot. Considering the older folks at the hotel thought 9 o'clock was a little late for us to be out, maybe we could have a specific place for this too.

Yeah man you did fcking sweet dude :headbang: . Unless your food sponsor includes lunch, some volunteers working that grill would be great for lunchtime. We definitely need to do this more often in your neck of the woods :cool2: .

Would a bullhorn be simpler than a PA system? A PA gives the illusion that someone is in charge (that is if you're avoiding the po-po's attention.)

Not really criticism. I think it went great.

#2- Schedule- Good Idea. I would not have rolled early had I known.
#3- Hell yes. I wear a damn monkey suit all week. No collars on weekends.

There were alot of bystanders asking questions. Maybe a brochure or flyer explaining who we are, and WTF we were doing there. Maybe something mentioning the AWA. The more members we have the more power we have to protect our right to ride.

That weekend had great propaganda value for the sport. Everyday people got to see that we are not all drunk a-holes that buzz docks and fishermen.

They might think differently if they every have the opportunity to vote on an issue that impacts our sport.

PA is a definite must for the raffle though. With as many people in the room & as deep as the room was, it was hard to hear what was going on. Especially when sponsers were announced & people cheered & clapped.

Nice to see you are humble & are looking to get better. You really did a great job & it will be tough to improve upon, but knowing how you are, you will

You did an exceptional job with everything. :headbang: :headbang: :hail:
Not a critique, but a few notes for things to think about for next year: as huge as the event was, it will certainly be even bigger next year. Keep that in mind for banquet rooms, etc.
Any chance that the hotel would allow a food vendor to set up a trailer in the parking lot for lunch?
Would the media show up if somone called them about doing a story? TV or newspaper coverage would be cool.
I think it would be cool to schedule a swap meet for the parking lot or across the street.
If you can get enough sponsors for some nice items it might be worth it to have a silent auction around the raffle ticket table that will conclude with the winners being announced at the banquet. I guess it would be hard to figure out what should be raffled or auctioned or what, but it's a thought.
I'll be down there soon so I'll be able to give you a hand next time.

Can you warp time and make it last a week and still have us back to work in a couple of days?
