Trying to get my ski salt proof for Daytona. Comments on what needs to be done are welcomed. Already Loctited/ anti seized all the bolts.(fresh build this summer) siliconed the starter o ring. Do I need to run mesh filters in the cooling line for sand? New start stop switch. Waterproof shrink wrapped all cables on the ebox and stator just in case there is slit somewhere that could short.(also wrapped with pet plastic mesh to stop any rubbing through and slits in the wire. Pic attached)

Yeah, you've got it in mind. Jetmaniac had a good post on here about what to do to prepare for the salt.

Best advice I could give you coming from the north, is the flush your ski out at the lake afterwards. Ride it around a while, get as much salt out as possible.

If you really cherish it, take it apart when you get home. Salt will still be all over and I've had multiple issues afterwards. It's all worth it though.

Flush it out afterwards. That's the main thing. I'm rebuilding a entire 701 engine that was absolutely perfect the last ride. Because I got lazy and let it sit afterwards.

Dont let go. No matter what happens. Don't let go of the ski. Hang onto it like your life depends on it.

Buddy did the same thing. Also good tho Change your head o rings. Coming up on 2 years. May change it. Would filters be a good idea to keep sand out? Or don’t bother since it’s one week out of the year

Bring an extra steer nozzle if you have one. If you land on the tail of your ski, the sandy bottom at Daytona has about the same consistency of 4000psi concrete.

I don’t unfortunately. I’m a noob that likes to send it so it might be a good idea to lol.

I like the fogging oil idea. I don’t think I’ll have access to a hose to run out the ski.

I've never ran filters on my surf skis. But I have also had issues with plugged Lines. I attribute it to me beaching my ski by sliding it way up shore. Recently. This fresh surf build I'm doing. I upgraded to all 1/2 cooling line going into the engine. It is significantly more flow and less chance of a plug happening. I also am highly considering going back to a single carb 701, and a stock ignition over the zeel. I feel like a surf ski. Is like an airplane. It should be as bulletproof. Redundant. And bare bones as possible.

Have fun man. Nothing else on the planet is a rush like riding the ocean!

A freshwater flush would be the best option. Lake Dias about 45 minutes from the beach.
I assume after the freeride? It’s okay to run it for the week then flush at the lake. Correct? Thinking of fogging it after each day. Then flushing it at the lake before the trip home.

Yes, ski will be fine for the free ride without flushing each day. Blow water out the exhaust after each ride. When you're done for the day, spray it down with SC1(or something similar) and leave the hood off / vented to breathe. Flush on last day at a boat ramp/harbor / lake.

I ride surf / salt 99.9% of the time. Riding one weekend in salt will not ruin your ski. When we go to Pismo Freeride or Mexico, we do not flush for 3-5 days. The comment on tearing your motor down after salt use is hilarious.

If you're worried about electronics in salt, the big thing is making sure your Ebox is properly sealed. Put dielectric grease in the connections for start stop. Make sure your battery cables aren't $hitty. Those are the big three for me. Based off your first post, looks like you've done more than enough to make sure your ski is salt worthy.

A lot of people overthink prepping a ski for salt. As long as you're stuff isn't ghetto rigged or junk, I guarantee you will be fine. Salt is just less forgiving for existing issues that freshwater can't find (slits/tears in wires, battery cables, etc.)
