Decal Eraser Wheel Leaves Stains

I used a decal eraser wheel on my white gelcoat ski. It worked awesome at taking the decals off, but it left yellow stains on the gelcoat (the wheel is yellow) I will post pics when I can

I have tried acetone, goof off, rubbing compound with a towel, but nothing seems to work at removing these stains.

Anybody have any tips? Could I sand it with a very fine grit and then buff it back to shine?

Post a picture when you can. If rubbing compound doesn't do the trick then it sounds like the gelcoat might have discolored from heat. The wheel being yellow could just be a coincidence. Hard to say without pics.

If you need a proper fiberglass cleaner to try, I have a sample pack of Flitz that I can drop in the mail. I just found it in my toolbox over the weekend. PM me with your address and I'll make it happen.

Cool, I will take pictures when I get home tonight

Yeah, its a fine line between burning the surface, not making a smoking goo mess out of the decal, and spinning it to fast and blowing the wheel up in your face! lol I did that once...$25 3M wheel down the toilet..

Once you get the hang of it with low rpm and the right pressure they can really work well, especially on decals that are burned on/old and so hard that a heat gun and plastic razor blades wont even take off.

Hi fischer550! I have the same problem with the yellow stain (burnt) on the paint. How were you able fix it? I wanted to make sure I will be doing the right thing before doing it. Thanks!

too hard, too fast, burned it.

I use the china amazon rubber wheels instead of the 3m ones as they are much cheaper and WAY softer. They still last a while but they won't burn nearly as easily as the 3m.
