You can move the cable to the outermost hole on the turnplate no problem. Just whenever you adjust the steering cable or modify anything, make sure that the turnplate hits the stops BEFORE the cable is maxed out. If the cable is maxed out one way or the other before you hit the stops, it will break.

The turnplates are all the same. The ones you are looking at are great choices.

Hey dmpus, why do you say the stock throttle and steering system wont work with the shmity1 cable? I ran that cable with my stock pole, turnplate, throttle, and nozzle. The only thing i really had to modify is the one hole for the cable block thing. Did he change the cable or something?

hey curbyourho, Ive been looking at the products you state and am quite interested in that setup. Would the risers really help someone that was small im only 5'7 65kg so anything that would make me find it easier would be beneficial. Regards

A friend of mine rides with the Cold Fusion turnplate and riser bar setup. Really nice and very high quality, but I'm a tall guy at 6'2". I kept hitting my knee on the turnplate because of the risers. That's the only reason I stayed with straight bars.

Hey thanks for your post djraider, i think its fair to say il wait until I get the cable from ts innovations and then see what im up against, but in the meantime im looking at getting the best possible steering position that can easily be adjusted to suit differant applications. Im quite small 5'7 65kg so feel that risers may suit my riding posture (wont get worn out as quick lol), but open to suggestions as have never tried them before. Atm im looking at coldfusion riser bar quick steer plate and clamp, riser bars rrp coupled with the 6mm throttle lever and odi locking grips. I like a bush system (heard its less maintenance, which is what im after too).

Thanx, Trotty

Can you post pics or explain how you got the stock chinpad to work with the cold fusion steering plate and longer cable. I'll be doing the mods next week and would like to keep using my stock chin pad
thx

I meant the after market steering system will not work with the stock bars. The stock throttle has a pin that goes into a hole onto the stock bars. Shmity1s cable itself should work with stock bars and throttle lever, my bad

I think you'll like the the Cold Fusion setup. You're definitely in the right direction with the steering.

Oh ok I see what you're saying. I've always just redrilled for that little pin to use the stock throttle lever.

That was most useful dmpus and thanx!!! In regards to the cable, I have spoken to schmidt1 and will be ordering the cable from him early next week (woopwoop)!!. The next thing is turnplate, when I order one do I need to order it pre 08? Im looking at coldfusion, xscream and atp atm as all seem to be bush systems, just need to know wether i order pre 08 because of the cable install?, also the throttle lever, any suggestions? regards. Trotty

I initially bought Xmetal steering with bushings, I thing second generation (the first edition was with bearings as far as I know). I hate to put negative feedback on a product made by a reputable company, but this steering was the worst mod I've done. It was never tight, always wobbling and loose.
I then switched to ColdFusion and I was reborn. It uses the stock bushings and it works awesome. Top quality and best price. Go with the ColdFusion, you will not be disappointed.
One thing I forgot to mention, If you use your stock chinpad, you will need to do a lot of grinding on both sides. I removed the brass nut on the right side and put stainless bolt/nut upside down instead. Otherwise this brass nut will always be on the way of the steering cable.

hey thanx for the post a previous post (curbyourho) explained that he had to trim the chinpad and restaple to make good, wether this was because of the risers im not sure until I get the parts, maybe his the best person to ask. I would say il post pics when I do the install but feel you will complete before me lol, let me know how you got on and any pointers. Thanx

I'll take a few pics and post them here. With riser bars I had to grind off the sides even more, but it worked fine. Still happy with my stock chinpad.

Thanx for that dmpus, its great to narrow it down (like a minefield of products to choose from, want to get it right). I appreciate the work/s needed on the chinpad (just one of those things lol), will worry about that when i get there. Is it possible to get an aftermarket chinpad that will just be a straight swap? thanks for the input mate.

Another reason to get Coldfusion steering is that you can try both risers and straight bars on it. You can always buy cheap bike bars and try. I had straight and switched to riser fat bars and liked em better. Im 5'9"

P.S. another thing I forgot, you will need grips as well.

Most important thing if you go surf: Helmet (any mtb full face will do the job), gloves and Asics wrestling shoes. Without shoes it will hurt to hit these footholds everytime.

Not sure how a/m chinpad fits on stock post 08 pole and they are kinda pricey :)

hey, yea ive been looking at the odi lock grips, havent really looked at anything else at the moment!! yes the helmet is important i had a few close calls last year lol.

so in a couple of weeks (when ive got the money ahhhh) at present ive decided (from the help of this forum):
1. Cold fusion riser bar quick steer plate and clamp.
2. Riser bars rrp 50mm (grips tbc)
3. Cold Fusion throttle lever 6mm.
4. ts innovations steering cable.

(think thats all for the steering atm)

5. Intake grate worx wr205 or wr228

(that will be enough spent for the timebeing otherwise the machine wont have any fuel in it lol)

Hey Trotty, welcome to X-H20, you're gonna love it here. There's a lot of great people here with lots of info.

As for intake grate. You're gonna need the wr228 (09+), the wr205 is (pre 08). I installed the wr228 on my 09 Superjet last summer, and it works great.

Hey redturbomr2, thankyou, I think its great and yea im experiencing this already :). Ive been jetskiing on and off all my life really but never owned one, just always went out with my uncle and learnt on the js440 - 550 then 750sxi. This has led me to be quite confident over time but never had one so never dealt with what I should and shouldnt get in terms of upgrades. As soon as I got my new machine (which took years to save for and almost had a heart attack parting with the money) I loved it but the spring had to be replaced immediately as the oem was non existing in terms of assistance. The steering is where im at atm as its so much harder and rather lame compared to what ive been used to, however i dont want to take expensive parts off (pole) in order to effectively steer and you guys have led me to schmidt1 so hopefully theres the answer so thanx for that. The advice seems invaluable thus far as without it I wouldnt know where to start.

Interms of the grate yep thats a necessity which i plan to get asap wr228, heard nothing but good feeds on that.

Happy skiing, Trotty

You mean this set up? Exactly what I run, im happy with it. Sometimes I forget im using riser bars! I instantly became comfortable with it, they look trick and it leaves room for adjustability if you want to rotate them. I dont have before and after of trimming the chin pad, but you can see where I chopped out the original brass nut, and bolt and nut it. I also put a relief cut in the chin pad and bent it away from the bars to help clear it. The chin pad still stays very firm after modding it and looks a little less bulky. There's a video below comparing stock throw between the stock cable and shmity1's cable + bracket.

You remove your chin pad, remove half of the staples holding the cover on and peel it back. With a dremel keep cutting a little at a time unti it clears the bars. The I used a scissor and trimmed the foam. Pull back the cover and staple them with stainless steel staples. You want to use a staple gun to do this. With some pressure they will go in.
