Decline jet ski rental

Anyone own a jet ski business and rejected someone cause you feel they would not ride safely? If so how did you do it. While race has nothing to do with who I rent to, sometimes they are not the same race as me and feel they think i deny them due to race.

Buddy of mine doesnt rent to groups of guys, they always destroy his ski, only couples/families. He also requires a $300 cash deposit on top of the rental fee.

In all seriousness, I would consult a lawyer on how your state handles its particular anti-discrimination law since it varies by state and see what you can and can't do.

"On a federal level, businesses can refuse service to any person for any reason, unless the business is discriminating against a protected class. e.g. Race or color, National origin or citizenship status, Veteran status, Religion, Sex, Age, Disability, pregnancy, or genetic information."

I imagine the lawyer could also help you draft a contract that states both parties responsibilities and maximum damages and what not. I PMd you a contract I have my customers sign for another type of business. The other lines go over responsibilities of both parties to include payment, maximum liabilities, emergency services, etc. A decent contract will scare iffy customers away if its got enough lawyer lingo.

i have a pretty good contract , its 7 pages long.. lol but if they damage it, yeah they pay for it, but still takes up time and the ski is never really the same. Also its usually pretty easy to spot these people. They don't watch the video while its playing, they don't read the rules, just sign papers..

My buddy has a rental business. You just need to have good insurance.

There is not many to choose from, and insurance is all ready sky high..

I didnt know you were allowed to discriminate except for age and if they look intoxicated.
I was told if they don't speak English i cant rent to them.

what does he tell them.. sorry no guy groups allowed? And I would understand this rule lol.. They are usually the most reckless..

“Can all of you swim, well?” Insurance requires all rents to know how to swim.
I have said the depost has to be CC not a debit or cash. Most people that are reckless dont seem to have a real CC.

I feel like if I think they would not be safe, it should trump any of those protected classes... Like I would not let a pregnant woman on a ski, or blind person on a ski..

sorry for the late replys, its been a busy month.
